Osama Bin Laden killed!

Remember that in Islam, it's all right to lie to your enemy.

Is that where the law enforcement agencies of America adopted it from?;)

all societies tend to let their "moral guardians" do that in the name of "justice"

Of course moral guardians and justice are the terms that they all define differently, but america actually uses that policy as a law enforcement tool.

It would be better if they didn't use falsehoods and distortions.

But the conclusion was good.

Agreed. Stef is an interesting one; you have to be very alert with him, as he is not above utilising hyperbole et al to further his bagenda (which, ironically, dilutes it), but I do appreciate the intense hyper-criticism he provides in this kind of situation where passions are so high and people are ripe for governmental manipulation. Also, I think his final conclusion is fairly unavoidable.

LOL

I don't know where it started, but once the courts had decided it was OK to lie to a suspect to try to get him to admit something, law enforcement started pushing the envelope. Now they can legally lie to anyone at all about just about anything if they think it will help gain information for an investigation. Trying to build a case against my friend they got sent to prison in spite of the knowledge it was his brother who's guilty, they lied to his mom, his boss, his landlord, me, my mom, and others.

I'm happy,if not, somewhat suprised, to report that in my travels today while monitoring right wing hate radio, there seemed to be almost universal support of the President today..At least by the hosts..

The callers, not so much..They were stunned when their masters scolded them and shunned their partisan slurs..

Good for the hosts. But,in a way way,I felt almost bad for the callers. They've been trained for years to get on the air and regurgitate, in their own native accents, exactly what they've just heard..Today at least, even the most extreme right wingers weren't trying to hear the dumb shit.Although some were hinting that waterboarding may have yielded ''positive results.''

But the sun also rises, and since half of it's already down the memory hole,we'll see what they say tommorow..

I normally don't like to give the enemy mouth pieces a bit of credit, but today, for the most part, they did alright..

I'll be honest (and I may get flamed for it) but I'm wary of celebrating someone's death. It just doesn't sit well with me. Yes, the man was evil, and did unspeakable things. But I don't believe that celebrating his death is appropriate. The Vatican's statement on the matter was an apt one:

Faced with the death of a man, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibility of everyone before God and man, and hopes and pledges that every event is not an opportunity for a further growth of hatred, but of peace.

Six months after 9/11, Bush "Truly not concerned about bin Laden".

Thanks for nothing, Bush. And people are giving you credit for this?

A lifetime of denigrating women, only to cower behind one in the final moments of it.

Priceless...

That is pretty amusing.

Obama the door kickin, trigger pullin' BAMF is pretty cool too.

Funny to see the partisan has departed almost everywhere over this but not for some.

Is anybody watching Rachel tonight?

How long are we supposed to play reindeer games with Pakistan?

Why not just treat them as our enemy? They've never missed an opportunity to prove they aren't.

If this war must DRAG ON,fuck having our guys rooting around in desolate caves.Let's head to the big cities and kick this in the ass...

OBL,caught less than a mile from a Pakistani military retirement community.Near a large city.Figure, after Al-Queada figure, captured in large Pakistanian cities..Enough of this dumb shit.

In for a penny.In for a for a pound.

If we're gonna continue to fight, let's bring it to an end quicker and fight in Pakistan.

I've always thought our 'alliance'' with them was a sham.Let's call it a wrap and get down to business.

hawks/bulls baby - game 1

im a little osama'd out - not really

like that obama basically said fuck u to them - they deserved it - far too long a line of frenemies - who take our money and play us for fools

wouldn't it be great for obama to fool us all and be the hawk that cheney wanted bush to be ???

^^ So you support mutual nuclear annihilation and regional instability. As long as you dont have to be bothered to argue for it, fight for it or otherwise be bothered?

It's ok to be french.

I hope Clinton gave Musharraf a nice dressing down today after he released his ridiculous comments about 'violated sovereignty'. If Pakistan wasn't an 'ally', (those quotes are well-deserved) they would have already been declared a state that supports terrorism.

How they're reacting tells us all we need to know about their complicity in hiding him. Someone in Pakistan's government knew, and they chose to protect him. While pragmatism has its place, I think the time for that has passed. The president, and SoS, need to tell Pakistan, in no uncertain terms, that they will not tolerate any intransigence when it comes to stopping terrorism.

Guys, Pakistan has nukes.

If anything, I'd send a greeting card, with no return address and no writing inside, to India that has a riled up dog with a Pakistani flag in its teeth, and behind the dog an obviously unattached American flag leash.

And if Hamas wants to run its mouth, I'm thinking of a similar greeting card with a different detail being sent to Israel: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/world/middleeast/03gaza.html

Yeah,I know..But we have Navy S.E.A.L.'s..What do they have? Fuck Pakistan and anyone who looks like them.. (figure of speech.)

What do they have, like 9 maybe 10 nukes? We have thousands. They are our enemy and they are the reason this nonsense has been dragging on as long as it has..

Get rid of them,or their nuclear capabilities. I have no doubt,we have guys trained to do it.While we're at it,we might have a shot at ending this war..

Couple that of course,(afterwards) with a more restrained foreign policy..But to me at least,we're never gonna get anywhere as long as we keep fucking with these people..

Hey i dont disagree to a point, however letting loose the nucs anywhere is bad news imho.

Plus can you imagine how hard it would be to get customer support at that point.

Forget it.

Interesting off the topic story but it points to exactly the idea that we step up to fight anywar.

Last deployment part of our multiple taskings was Counter piracy. Yet we required absolute no shit in progress proof that piracy was occurring. So one day we see a obvious pirate vessel that is doing nothing illegal at the moment. So we follow with air assets.

After about 40 minutes the Indians show up and ask politely if we intend to take any action.

We respond "Not at this time"

So the Indian Frigate ask us to scoonch over just a wee bit and proceeds to blow the fucking pirate out of the water.

They then thank us and steam home.

Amazing how much we wait for to act. When we do it is priceless, lethal and effective. BUT often we dont.

We wont in Pakistan either. That is of course barring anymore aggression on their part.

Thanks for nothing, Bush. And people are giving you credit for this?

Remember, Bush was a ranch cowboy. In that context, him saying he was no longer concerned means he told the ranch foreman to do something about it and so he doesn't worry about it any more.

Spokesmen are saying that info generated by the special task force before Bush disbanded it was critical -- as was info from while Clinton was president. So while Bush didn't follow through, he did get a little bit right, and gets credit for it.

But the real credit among presidents goes to the guy who made the call. Clinton could have but wimped; Bush gave mixed signals on whether he even wanted to, but Obama insisted on not only doing it but doing it in a way that made it possible to demonstrate it was really the man we wanted.
