Dzhokhar Tsarnev - Product of our colleges...?? unsure of status.

Adam Lanza - Product of our schools - high school loner

James Homes - Product of our schools - Grad school drop out

Jared Lee Loughner - Product of our schools - Kicked out of community college

So does all this link together to our schools or our society?

Folks (including me) are willingly ready to associate Chechen rebels to this attack. That may not be the case.

Can you link it all to school or to lack of mental health?

Who wants to bet there were some kind of signs available to the folks around this current lunatic?

I know there are other threads about the current situation. Hopinf this isnt a thread that just becomes a current event rehash... we have that...

this is the four-year-old's maddening question....

WHY?

and even better HOW do we change course?

Re: Our Schools

Perhaps when schools get away from teaching so students can simply pass standardized tests.

My niece graduated from high school in 2011. No scholar she, but no dummy either.

Could not grasp the fact that her mother could not write a check for my niece's new "whatever". And I quote "What do you mean you don't have any money? You still have checks, so you still have money".

No kidding...and then a few months later asked me to co-sign a car loan. Um, no thanks.....

Re: Our Schools

Most every American is a product of our schools and not everyone makes bombs or shoots up a theater or school.

Re: Our Schools

This is true.

I am making no assumptions.... the school connection was to make a visual point about assumed links where nothing is in reality connected. Not making it in jest, just saying that simply the fact that one has an association does not equate to causation.

Re: Our Schools

Our schools and teachers, being liberal do like to focus on the negatives about America: slavery, the Indians, the evil rich, the poor etc. it makes the teachers feel superior, but it teaches a very negative view of Americans.

Re: Our Schools

I do hope we find answers to the questions you raised JayHawk and ideally we figure out how we can help prevent these types of events and the situations that may make it possible for people to feel alienated and act out violently.

I always felt learning about other cultures and the lives of others helped me to sympathize and empathize with others, which I don't think is a bad thing.

Benvolio would see learning to sympathize or empathize with the people he holds responsible for most or all of the ills in American society as a bad thing.

No. If your focus is on how bad Americans are, you should not be surprised if a few students learn that it is ok to kill them.

Instead of the sugar coated lie you've latched on to? Why do you hate America so much, Benvolio? You really don't want the country to succeed in anything. Why?

Because it was founded by evil immigrants of course!!!

Oh the Irony.

for someone who drones on and on about xyz america problems

this is unintentionally humorous

america as a negative force has a lot of momentum sadly

while u complain about those who disagree with admin policy as being racially motivated

so please make one case but not the other

rather than expose the silliness

ben is correct that educators are far left - that's not debatable

león panetta called btw

Experts say the internet---not school education---internet education as they surf the net---if you are slightly a borderline personality and you stare at a computer screen and bombard yourself with shit all day ---it can radicalize you.

It is sociopathy which can't necessarily be mitigated by social or educational systems.

In this case, as in other cases.....if you have a weak minded person, able to be manipulated by a strong willed and persuasive psychopath, or subject to psycopathy...the results are always catastrophic.

Read post number four and re-calibrate yourself ... if you cant get what an example of a false assumption is then I cannot explain it any further....

SO when is the last time you were in a high school? I was in four last week. I can tell you that you are wrong in making such a wide casting statement.

As far as the rest...

The internet is amazing in it ways that we have changed society. Consider how quickly millions of pictures were combed through and then information was put out in the current terrorist act. Think about the many successes of the Amber Alert system... info is changing us and for some it may be too much to separate lunatic ravings from reality.

I agree it is a social problem RB. But we keep focusing on the symptoms and not the disease I think. I don't know what needs to change but something is off in human society these days... not just here.

Benvolio is right for the wrong reasons.

Like any conspiracy theorist, they try to make connections when there isn't any. There is a reason Cambridge is referred to as "The People's Republic of Cambridge" for its 'leftist' views. I work there and deal with the city's ultra-incisiveness without any regard to qualitative reasoning.

Again, you look to the older brother and perhaps the mal-influence on the younger. The quote: "the things we do for family" rings true for nearly all. I am sure we all have done some unsavory things for family which we wont admit to but on the same token, I am not admonishing either of their behavior.

SO too much of anything and being ideologically blind is a bad idea?

Is the fact that our ideologically insane are out there every day have something to do with that corrupt mindset?

Nothing I said suggested conspiracy. My point was that if you teach children that Americans are bad, they may believe you.
