Out of The Mist

Arie's my hero! He doesn't miss a thing and unbeknownst to Paddy, he knows much more. Ryan and the guys luckily missed Uncle Paddy. I wonder when Gary and Cathy will be found out by either Paddy or Arie. I feel sorry for them both. Fun chapter...always nice to get the best of Paddy. Thanks, Chaz.

Craiger

Great chapter. I enjoyed Paddy's surprise about his host being the chief of police. I am wondering what Arie was up to and what he knew? It is lucky that Ryan was out and not available.

Chaz,
I was chuckling to myself the whole time I was reading this chapter - knowing full well who Arie was!

I can't imagine why "G" was looking to Arie for guidance on the restaurant expansion question - Arie definitely wants to help set the hook in Paddy!

“Out of The Mist”

Chapter 125 of ? …

Ollie:

Dave, Frank, and I, knew “Tino”, and his three younger brothers, mostly as acquaintances, because they didn't run in the same circles we did.

I'd noticed Rafe bristle at a possible competitor, and Ryan drooling over some HOT new meat, as Tino joined us.

While Rafe was piloting us through the breakwater, and beyond, I thought it best to send him, and Ryan a message.

“So, Tino, how is the wife and family doing?”, I asked loud enough for Everyone to hear over “Catch's” burbling engines.

Tino lit up like a Christmas tree, telling us about his latest 6mo old son, and his 3yr old boy.

The light went out of Ryan's eyes, and Rafe relaxed at the helm. Dave and Frank gave me a knowing glance, silently chuckling.

Tino gave Rafe some way points to the latest “hot spot” he knew of. Rafe glanced at me, I nodded, and Rafe punched them into “Catch's” nav software. It wasn't long before we were cruising out beyond our usual area.

Thanks to Capt. Rob's generosity, trust, and credit card, “Catch's” fuel tanks were full, and those tanks that shouldn't be full had been pumped dry. Her larder was also fully stocked.

Though we'd gotten a late start, we were set for a day out on the waves.

I was keeping watch at the upper helm, as Tino went about instructing everyone about setting the down riggers, and how to properly reel in a catch. He proved to be phenomenal. In nearly no time at all, Everyone had brought aboard a fish, or two!

The guys were so ramped up about their successes. It was a no-brainer to break out the beers as we headed home.

Rafe was stoked to take back the helm. Tino was sitting beside him on the lower helm bench, a muscled arm over Rafe's shoulders. Those two were bonding as Bros, as Rafe expertly slid “Catch” into her slip. I was thrilled!

To my surprise, Arie met us at the dock, and helped tie “Catch”.

“Welcome home!”, he exuded! “Can I talk to you all?”

“Only if you're going to help me teach these tender feet how to fillet fish!”, Tino boomed.

“I'll let you take the lead on that one!”, Arie chuckled. “I'll be more than happy to watch, and learn, while you do that.”

“Will you, and Pam, join us in “The Loft” for a fish fry once we get this handled?” Dave asked.

“You bet!”, Arie responded.

“Tino?”, Dave continued.

“No, Bro. I have to get back home, and all.”, Tino demurred.

“Well, in that case, please take as much of this with you as you want.”, I insisted. Thanks to you, there is far more here than the rest of us can handle.”

We might even have enough fish left over, after everyone took what they could use, thanks to Tino, to sell the rest to “Mother's”.

If what Tino accomplished today was any indication of what the rest of the week working with him might be, I had no doubts that Capt. Rob, and Norma, let alone those that might charter us, would be thrilled beyond expectations.

I also knew that what Tino had taught Rafe would be priceless going into the rest of the season when Rafe would be able to return, and really get into working “Catch”.

I was so impressed, and hopped up! Tino got hugs from all of us, including Arie, as he almost reluctantly said, “Catch you later!”, and headed off to his young family, bundles of fresh fish under his amazing, bronzed, muscled, arms.

All of us, well, maybe except Arie, were dreamily watching Tino's tight buns wriggling away from us. It wasn't fair that such a HOT straight dude could have a swagger like that!

“Hey, guys! Focus here!”, Arie laughed. “Let me pick up Pam, and I'll meet y'all back at The Loft.”

As light hearted as he sounded, I was feeling a bit of trepidation about what Arie might want to talk to us about.

And, though Arie had a nice, taut, bubble butt, too, none of us were drooling as he walked away. HA!

Chaz,
Whyever wouldn't they drool over Arie - maybe because he's old enough to be their father?!

Sure, tantalize the poor boys and leave them all frustrated - wait til they hear the exciting news about Paddy's Visit.

I also wonder why they wouldn't drool over Arie... There's always something to be said for older experience.....:-) I wonder is Arie will wait until the fish-fry is over before relating the news of Paddy. Otherwise there may be some indigestion. Thanks, Chaz.

Craiger

It wasn't that Arie wasn't "drool worthy". It was that the guys (well ... maybe except for Rafe), knew Arie, and especially Pam, too well! If they even thought of trying anything with Arie, Pam would likely rip their balls off! And, Arie might "retire" them with a quick neck snap! :help:

Besides, Arie wasn't wearing his uniform.

They looked at Arie just like they did Dan and Tim. As desirable as they might be physically, they were definitely "Off Limits" in any sexual sense. [-X

Tino was "Off Limits", too. However, he was at that age that he was so HOT, that the young dogs simply couldn't help themselves. (!w!) :-< :slap:

I am anxious to hear the reactions when Arie tells them what went on on land while they were off to sea.

Chapter 126 of ? …

Ollie:

As Arie was collecting Pam, I called Norma to see if Capt. Rob was dong well enough for the two of them to join us. I was surprised, and thrilled, when Capt. Rob answered the phone.

“Fish fry at The Loft? Oh, HELL, Yeah!”, he bellowed.

I could hear Norma in the background, “Are you sure, Dear? Are you feeling that well? Do you think that's a good idea at this point?”

He turned away from the phone to answer her, “Listen, Darlin', I'm feeling better than I have in a long time, and I'd really like to get out of this house, as long as you drive.”

“Well, in that case, I'm willing to give it a go! It'll be nice to talk to someone else besides you!”

“Ha! Did you hear that, Ollie?”, he chuckled. “We'll be there! Where did the fish come from?”

“I'll tell you that, and more, when you get here.”, I promised. “Don't rush. Take your time. Everyone will be thrilled to see you two!”

“Are they coming?”, Dave wondered, as he and Rafe were dancing around each other in the kitchen, scrambling up who knew what.

The Loft was smelling good already. I pitched in to grab place settings for the granite table and counter, to accommodate everyone.

“Where's the beers?”, Frank roared. “Ry, Babe! Get you sweet butt into this bustle, and make yourself useful!”

“Fuck you, “Big Guy”!”, Ryan chirped, heading for the fridge, dodging Dave and Rafe.

“Only if you get me drunk enough!”, Frank responded.

“That's never been the case before!”, Ry counter punched.

It wasn't long before the intercom chirped, and I buzzed in Arie and Pam through The Shed's pedestrian door. I'd told Capt. Rob he should call us as they were coming along Commerce Street, and I'd open the overhead so they could pull in, in front of the Jeep.

When Capt. Rob and Norma arrived, everyone seemed to go into overdrive with the hugs, and comments about how good Capt. Rob was looking. It was truly awesome to see him, out and about.

It was fundamentally touching when Arie hugged him, and held on for a while, with almost tears in his eyes. There was no doubt they were deep friends.

Pam winked at Norma and chortled, “Maybe it's time we should think about changing housemates! Those two can move in together, and you and I can share one of our houses.”

“I suppose that would cut down on at least half our problems!”, Norma laughed back.

Dinner was a major success! And, the fish tasted twice as good since we were the ones who had caught them. All of us, including Rafe, were regaling anyone within ear shot about how fantastic Tino had proven to be.

Norma shared that she had managed a charter for tomorrow afternoon. As excited as I was to get back to work, I was glad it wasn't for the morning. I made a quick call to let Tino know. He was happy, too.

Rafe was taking it light with the beer, since he had to drive back to Boston tonight. He said he couldn't wait until the rest of the week passed, and he could hurry back for “keeps”.

Arie waited until coffee was being served to let us know that Paddy had shown up today.

Things got really quiet.

“I don't want to be a downer here, but this is the second time that Paddy has come up here. That he seems to be centered on you, Ryan, has me concerned. I have a bad feeling about all this. I'm thinking he's more concerned about him, than you, Ry.”

Ryan was looking a bit “green”. “Yeah, he's my uncle and I love him, as I'm sure he loves me. However, I also know I can't fully trust him. I know him well enough that if he's feeling threatened, it doesn't matter who it is, including family. If he ever finds out, and I'm thinking he suspects, that I shared what I heard, he's going to be coming after me just like anyone else that might have breached his confidence. I'm really scared now, guys.”

Arie reached across the table to take Ryan's hand in his. “I want you to know that everyone here, and countless others that aren't, have your back! We will do everything in our power that we can to protect you, no matter what the threat might be, or who it is coming from. And, I can assure you that if your nefarious uncle decides to test us, he will be in for some very unpleasant surprises!”

Ryan was looking pale, and misty eyed. “I can't tell you how much that means to me, and how all of you are proving to be tremendous beyond my wildest expectations. However, you don't fully know my uncle. I wouldn't put anything past him!”

“That is for you, and us, to handle.”, Arie assured him, still holding his hand. “Relax, son. You're one of us, now.”

I saw Ryan's shoulders drop, as he smiled, and clenched Arie's hand back.

“I can't tell you how much that means to me.”, Ry stammered. “I'm not the guy I used to be when I first arrived here, and I can't put into words how miraculous that is. My LIFE is in your hands, and I'm completely comfortable with that.”

Pam rose to move behind Ryan, and smother him with a motherly hug.

Aw, even though this is cute, this is serious. Great story and waiting for the next chapter.

That was absolutely heartwarming, Chaz. It's good to see Capt. Rob and Norma were there and that he is improving so well. I'm glad Arie waited until after coffee to tell about Paddy, otherwise they all may have needed Gary's little pills...:-)

You are developing this story with the craft of a seasoned veteran.

Everyone is real to us - and definitely to each other.

Thanks for all of your hard work.

“Out of The Mist”

Chapter 127 of ? …

Rafe:

The inevitable clock was ticking, and I needed to get back to Boston.

It was with a heavy heart that I bid all of my new friends in The Loft, a sad, but necessary, farewell. I got more than my fair share of hugs, heartfelt wishes, and encouragements to “Take GOOD Care!”.

The Interstate would likely be the best choice to make some time, but I was feeling rather melancholy, and decided to take the two lane coast road. I was not in that much of a hurry to leave the “Ideal” for the “Real”, if you know what I mean.

The sunroof on my 2008 Dodge Avenger R/T, with AWD, was popped up to vent, rather than fully open. My two front windows were down about an inch, under their protective, smokey plastic, side window deflectors.

Air was moving freely in my car, just enough to ruffle my hair, but not enough to counter the automatic temperature controls.

It was fairly light when I left Harbour Home, but getting darker as I motored further south.

Looking at my dash read out, I noticed the outside temperature was dropping, and noted that tendrils of mist were forming off the ocean to my left, soon to become soft gray fog, getting thicker the further south I drove.

I slowed down, flicking on my fog lights, while enjoying the soothing sound of crashing waves.

It was becoming more difficult to see the road, and where I was going.

The sudden flare of flashing lights in my rear view mirrors, and the blare of a siren, caught me completely off guard. My heart fell into my stomach, as I turned on my right blinker, and pulled over onto the shoulder.

There was no way I was speeding, and I couldn't understand why I was being pulled over.

Rather than pulling in behind me, the Highway Patrol squad car passed me, then slewed sideways, across the right lane in front of me, blocking it.

That wasn't normal, nor what was expected.

The trooper got out of his car, and walked toward me, parked on the berm, window down, license out, seat belt on, hands on the dash, wondering what the Hell was going on.

“I'm glad I was able to stop you, sir!”

“What?”, I was wondering.

“There has been a collision in the fog, blocking the road, about half a mile down.”, he informed me.

There were a few more cars, and trucks, pulling to a stop behind us, their drivers as curious as I was, eventually getting out, and walking towards us.

It was a strange scene. The fog rolling off the ocean's waves was getting thicker, as all of us were standing on the road, and hearing crashes, some blaring horns, of those driving into the mess just south of us.

The north bound lane hadn't been stopped yet.

Eerie, possibly deadly, would be the right term.

The solemn sound of crashing waves did not let up, unaware of the calamity happening land side.

Moments later, more flashing lights, and sirens, as several ambulances cruised past us, in the left lane, heading south into the fog.

I realized how lucky I was to still be alive. Had I left just a few minutes earlier, I'd likely be under the back side of a semi trailer, the top of my car, and head, having been sheered off.

I was bent over, palms on my knees, nearly retching. The trooper laid his hand on the small of my back.

“Easy, guy!”, he comforted. “I'm glad I was able to stop you in time.”

That's a helluva wake up call - here's hoping there's nothing beyond the disaster on the road above.

One of my uncles, by marriage, was a cross country truck driver, and this is from a true story that he told me of one of his experiences.

It just goes to prove that LIFE is SO fragile, and dependent on random circumstances. #-o

Wow, Chaz! That was completely unexpected. What would we and the guys have done had Rafe not been stopped? As Don says I hope there is no further disaster and he gets safely back next week to Harbour Home. He's an integral part of the family now.
