Everyone thinks the Dems are responsible for the Civil Rights laws that rightly changed our country. I remember when it was going through declaring that you can't legislate morals, ethics and attitudes. Boy, was I wrong.
However... the civil rights MOVEMENT certainly came from the left... not even the extreme left (although some, at the time may have claimed that), and certainly Johnson was President at the time, but it was the groundswell from the Republicans that got the laws on the books, with Lyndon twisting (and in some cases outright threatening them) southern Dems, to get it through. Without the Republicans behind Johnson (a strange alliance, but the times were different then) it would not have happened back then.
Just an effort to keep the history honest here.
