Paladino Attacks Gays in Brooklyn Speech

Check out this online comment from a (presumably educated) NY Times reader about the article.

I fear the world is filled with these folks. We often assume that homophobia stems from ignorance, but that's not always the case.

---------------------------------------

Good for Mr. Paladino for having the courage to say what almost all non-gay people think. Paladino's sentiments won't be popular in New York City or San Francisco (with their heavily gay populations and liberal fellow-travelers) but what he said rings true elsewhere. The great majority of parents do not want schools or media teaching morality to their children, and like it or not, the topic of homosexuality for the great majority of people is a moral one. Gays and their NYT allies don't "get" the concept of morality, therefore, to them, Paladino's remarks were an attack.

Politically: Paladino would not have made his remarks if he calculated they would hurt him. Gays and other liberals were in the Cuomo camp already...so he wasn't going to lose their vote. He's obviously betting that mainstream NYers, the great majority of which bear no ill will against gays, but who nevertheless know homosexuality is not normal and don't want their CHILDREN exsposed to it, will appreciate his candor.

Why does this self-contradictory, hypocritical sentiment keep raising its ugly head? Don't these people ever listen to what they say?

Apparently not...

We have nothing against you, it's just that we think you're abnormal, amoral and we don't want you around ourselves or our children. OK ?

No hard feelings.

No, not exactly a polished politician, this one. "Thug" does seem to be a more accurate characterization.

"Fuck him"? Making death threats?

I haven't heard such language since John Gotti was still alive.

Paladino is a crazy racist homophobe. Vote and show him his ideals are outdated and absolutely backwards.

And does anyone else think this guy's affiliated with the mafia? Maybe it's me but I'm getting major mafia vibes every time I see him.

I'm so sick of hearing this lying sack of shit. "Viable option," my foot. Makes me want to get a t-shirt that says "my homosexuality is not optional."

“Carl Paladino is not homophobic, and neither is the Catholic Church.”

Yes, and also War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Shit is Shinola.

>>>Mr. Paladino declined a request to be interviewed after his appearance. His campaign manager, Michael R. Caputo, denied assertions that Mr. Paladino was antigay, and noted that he employed a gay man on his campaign staff.

What does he think of his staffer's parents?

Yeah, they must have [STRIKE]sucked[/STRIKE] been pretty bad to let him think homosexuality is a viable option, huh?

Children should not be "brainwashed" into thinking that religious-based homophobia is acceptable.

THERE we go. QFT.

I didn't mention John Gotti because I thought he was cute. ;)

This is the Republican Party of 2010. Homophobics, Nazi SS henchmen and witches. Who will they expose next week?

Carl Paladino = homophobic Italian Catholic (who used to be Democrat)

Andrew Cuomo = homophobic Italian Catholic who now pays lip service to gays, and he's a Democrat, so he's okay

Witches? Damn, if I knew there was some black magic going on in the Republican Party you could sign me up.

Excuse me, not that there aren't any Witches as crazy as Christine O'Donnell, but they aren't crazy in that way. She's NOT a Witch, and she's evil and stupid in ways real Witches (like me!) typically aren't.

Paladino is proving he's not a politician by saying things that are political death. He's a fucking idiot. If you really think they're equivalent, you still should vote for Cuomo, because, unlike Paladino, he's not a fucking idiot.

Andrew Cuomo supports same sex marriage, Paladino thinks we're brainwashed threats to children with no right to marriage.

This is policy, not party.

.

Calling Christine O'Donnell stupid is an insult to stupid people.

Sure he does!

Cuomo has publicly stated his support of same sex marriage, Paladino has publicly stated his opposition.

This is policy, not party.

I don't know how psychopathic you need to be in your partisanship to pretend otherwise.

Present your evidence for Cuomo's homophobia. You've seen ours for Paladino's. I for one had no notion he was particularly homophobic until yesterday, even though it's of a piece with his "to hell with everyone who isn't me" philosophy.

Or are you going to be a true Republican and just rely on unsupported assertions, repeated in the hope that people will start to believe them just because "they heard it somewhere"? That actually works politically (unfortunately for our country), but it won't work here. We can see who said what and what evidence they gave.

So let's have some evidence of Cuomo being homophobic. And it's going to have to be pretty good to counter his public statements of support for same-sex marriage and marching in the Pride parade.

I am not attacking Democrats at every opportunity, making ridiculous blanket statements about the whole party, and creating political threads in a non-politics forum in order to do so.

Present your evidence for Cuomo's homophobia.
I already did!

You're equating an anti-gay politician with one who has expressed his support for gays and pretending they're no different. And you then pretend that those who see a difference are only partisan in doing so.

That's nuts or dishonest.

I already did!

No, you presented evidence that the depth of Cuomo's commitment to same-sex marriage may not be much. You presented evidence that some supporters of MARIO Cuomo used gay-baiting tactics against his opponent. That's not evidence of Cuomo's homophobia.
