Paladino Attacks Gays in Brooklyn Speech

No, you presented evidence that the depth of Cuomo's commitment to same-sex marriage may not be much. You presented evidence that some supporters of MARIO Cuomo used gay-baiting tactics against his opponent. That's not evidence of Cuomo's homophobia.

Mr. Koch said he had accepted an apology from the younger Mr. Cuomo for the tone of that race. But asked recently in an interview if he believed that Andrew Cuomo had nothing to do with the homophobic posters, Mr. Koch said: “I honestly don’t know. I’d like to believe it. But I don’t know.”
So, you can ignore all the signs pointing to him being a homophobe if you like. Just because he's willing to tell you what you want to hear in order to win this election doesn't mean he's on your side.

And you're willing to defend an avowed gay-hater. Is this the masochism board?

I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of those defending a gay hater. If folks are going to be single-issue voters on gay rights, at least get the whole picture before you jump on a band wagon.

I see no evidence of Cuomo as a gay-hater.

And even if in the distant past there was some inkling, there is much evidence to the contrary today. He's stood with us, he's stated his support of us.

The other gay just hates us, and that's it.

jizz, we always have to make bad choices in politics. Presented with two evils, lesser and greater, it's our duty as citizens to make the choice.

Mercury is right. A lukewarm supporter, yeah, Cuomo is that. May be personally homophobic. But he's better than someone who actually gets up in public and says homosexuality isn't a "viable choice." People who think homosexuality is a CHOICE are way wrong as it is. Thinking we shouldn't be allowed around kids is worse.

And if Cuomo gets in and we have the right Democrats in the Senate, we could have legal same-sex marriage in New York. This matters. A lot.

Actions speak louder than words, and gay rights groups in NY think he's mighty short on action. If voters are willing to ignore everything else and accept lip service, then okay.

Exactly the larger point I'm trying to make. There's more to the choice than just gay rights. People on this subforum apparently want everyone to make a black and white, up or down vote based on one issue, and with any other option than a Democrat being stupid, insane, self-hating, etc.

There is more than just gay rights. But gay rights is critical. And these candidates are far apart on this issue. To pretend otherwise is, as I said earlier, either nuts or dishonest.

It's not just gay rights.

Anyone who is so stupid as to believe homosexuality is some kind of lifestyle choice and who is so bigoted as to believe that children should be taught to hate does not deserve to be elected to office. Period.

Not any office.

It would not matter if he were talking about left-handed Norwegians. That kind of stupidity and bigotry should be a disqualification for office.

It is disheartening that the Republicans could nominate such a sorry loser as a candidate for such an important office. I am astounded at what that party has become.

Between these comments and the two hate crrimes recently committed here, I can't remember the last time gay rights were front and center in local news and on the cover of all the local papers so regularly.

And they both illustrate the fact that the anti-gay bias of people like Paladino results in violence and bullying against gays, and the suicides of young people.

Both of which, at least from my perspective, were made abundantly clear in that video I watched, and Paladino appeared to be giving an excellent 'how-to' demonstration for his fans.

I wish the United States could find somebody who will do what's best for the country rather than what's best for his/her own beliefs. Why can't people see that someone who works so hard to deny equal rights to a great number of its citizens (what equates to the population of Canada) isn't doing what's right for the country.

I thank God no longer live in NY with likes of Carl "the godfather of the NY tea baggers."

Bad enough here in the Bible Belt of Mid Missouri.
