Pastor Orders Congregation To Attack Gay Couple For Attending

What happened about loving your neighbor and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you?!

Oh that's right! Christians only do that when it suits them.

Pittman said the attack was prompted by the pastor of the church, Jerry Pittman, his father.

My uncle and two other deacons came over to the car per my dad’s request. My uncle smash me in the door as the other deacon knocked my boyfriend back so he couldn’t help me, punching him in his face and his chest. The other deacon came and hit me through my car window in my back,” said Pittman.

It's a family affair.

You can only feel for this poor guy. Looks like his entire homophobic family are out to get him. :(

And this bit is very telling as well:

The deputy sheriff who arrived on scene refused to take a statement from the couple, even though they were the ones who has summoned the police. Without a statement reporting that an ugly incident of Christian mob violence had occurred, the officer on duty refused to press charges against the pastor or the violent deacons.

Welcome to the world where anti-gay violence is sanctioned and approved by the law enforcement.

Sounds like this is a very small town, where the local cops are in cahoots with the pastor.

I hope that this young couple can get away from this nightmare of a place that they live in. When the town authorities as well as your own family is against you, it's time to leave.

Please, someone dare come in here telling us that fundamentalist christians are any different from fundamentalist muslims, I fucking dare you.

I accept.

As terrible and sad as this is, there would be a few ever-so-slight differences if this were a fundamentalist Muslim community.

1. The pastor would have ordered the killing of both men, including his own son.

2. The couple would not have survived the day. They'd either have been hung, or stoned to death.

3. The local law enforcement would have actually been the ones carrying out the execution.

Don't let's start pretending that Christians, however ignorant and closed-minded they are, can possibly compare to what extremist Muslims do.

Sensational headline!!

Another crap thread [Text: Removed by Moderator]

If the thread starter would have read the article -- it was more of a family affair -- we don't know if the "pastor" had a problem with is son being gay or maybe it was because he didn't like the guy his son was with in the car.

Just sad.

What a bunch of freaks! Why can people like this continue to have kids, but we have such trouble adopting?

Good lord. If you really believe that then I pity you.

I've seen a lot of bullshit from you, but I never suspected you would stand up for the moral character of violent homophobic abusers.

A new low for you.

This is only true due to the fact that these fundamentalist Christians still live in the U.S, and that kind of crap would not be tolerated by the rest of the country. There are entire nations in the Middle East and Africa that are run by Sharia Law, and so this kind of thing is tolerated.

Fundie Christians are just as capable of doing awful things and fundie Muslims, they just don't have quite the same amount of support. Of course, moderates of both religions can be awesome too, so don't let the crazy fundies ruin your view of religion (even though most of you already have anyway...)

so sad u can't even go to church anymore because u don't know if u gonna be attack or not for being gay, i believe in god and jesus and i don't need to go to church to do so!!

It's very clearly that dynamically, in terms of intent, philosophy and general demeanour, they are EXACTLY the same. The only thing that prevents fundamentalist Christians from acting in the ways you describe is the sheer good fortune that tye generally tend to operate in cultures where their bigotries and vileness is held in check to acertain degree by either competing cultural values or the general secularity of law. If their belief systems were as culturally pervasive and mandated as those of Fundamentalist Muslism are in their particular cultures, they'd be no better, no different. And it's very clear from recent events: The bombing of abortion clinics, the murder of doctors, assaults upon homosexuals, the clear and unabashed attempts to make women chattel by law. If it is not recognised very soon that the particular religious/ideological label is redundant, and all that matters is the FUNDAMENTALIST portion, it will be to the detriment of civilisation, progress and culture in general.

Don't you guys know about the secret 12th Commandment?

"Thou shalt beat the shit out of gay people, because they have it coming".

(In case you were wondering, the 11th Commandment is "Thou shalt molest young boys and cover that shit up")

if they could get away with it,

they'd love to kill us - probably burn at the stake, so they could have a party, like they did at lynchings

those love thy neighbor christians

The saddest part of all is that this is a father and son. At what point does a father's love turn to something ugly like this? Conditional love is no love at all.

There are too many fathers in the world and not enough Dads.

This is a very dysfunctional family. The attitude of the deputy sheriff is also disturbing.

If you continually want to be a victim go ahead.

It doesn't mean I have to go along with it, sympathize with you, or twist news reports to make my point.

I think it's very bad what the father did .... there's just more to it.
