I really don't know just when the Christians became insane, but I'm sure of it. This little article happened in Colorado. The pastors are blaming women for wearing pantsuits. That come in way down in the article. But abortion is the biggie. They don't understand why God is punishing Colorado Springs. Why don't he burn down Denver or that other Democratic city.
Good for a laugh anyway.

Also to blame were abortion, a same-sex kiss, and exposed breasts.
July 1, 2013 |

Last week on Generations Radio, Colorado pastors Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner addressed the forest fires hitting their state. They wondered why God was punishing Colorado with the fires, and specifically targeting the heavily conservative city of Colorado Springs.

oh yeah, he bitched about flying back from Down Under and seeing tits on the TVs. Why didn't he shut them off?

Having failed to gain traction against gays as the root to all evil, conservatives now appear to be focusing on women as the cause of their dissatisfaction with themselves.

Dumb thread. Dumb "pastors".

They are self proclaimed ministers who don't speak for any large group - they are idiots. Writing an article about them is like writing an article about an insane park soapbox weirdo.

Ignore them. Ignore Alternet.

Both promote wingnut ideas.

Just this once, I seem to be actually annoyed by the constant denigration and trashing of Christians on JUB by this constant linking of websites that report what ONE person says and the immediate desperate extrapolating to insinuate it's what ALL followers of Christianity in America believe. Maybe it's the fact that 19 people died, but I'm rather getting sick of it tonight. And I say that as an atheist.

It's a tragedy for 19 families. I really don't think it's the time for the usual HATRED of Christians from desperate websites to be given an airing, particulary with the title of this thread. It's just an attempt to smear and attack, it's a clumsy and stupid article, and it's insensitive.

What further annoys me is these are the same people who WILL SAY NOTHING against Muslims or the religion of Islam or for that matter any other religion for barbarism and cruelty you can scarcely believe.

Come on people, get real.

^ The big problem, that needs to be considered, is that the lunatic fringe of Christianity has ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY hijacked and taken over the Republican Party, to the extent that the Republican Party is on their way to imposing what entirely looks like Sharia Law on all Americans, or as many as they possibly can.

I feel there is much more of a threat, here, from the Republican Party. Most of the extreme Muslims are "over there" - but similarly extreme mindsets are running amok and they're RIGHT HERE, even within a mile or two of me.

They are a threat to the American way of life and, for that matter, for the continuation of human life on this planet.

If they were genuine Christians, I would be in full agreement. IMHO, our lunatic fringe is using Christianity to further its agenda and consequently, are taking advantage of persons of faith. Also, extreme Muslims are what they are: they are not usurping a part of our own culture - Christianity. While whack jobs like Pat Robertson will attribute "a pact with the devil" to Haiti where the earthquake transpired, extreme Muslims just blow up buildings. These are two different things and deserve separate consideration.

There isn't a Muslim in this country who has ANY impact on our laws, period.

We will never have Sharia Law.

These fascists in Christian clothes have impact every single day.

As already have sharia law. It's these anti-choice republican laws they're trying to secretly enact.

If you'll read news, the 19 died in Arizona. This took place in Colorado.
My condolences go out to those 19 families.

No surprises there. They don't become better, they simply switch targets. Seeing what they've done to women's rights in TX,OH and IA the past couple of weeks helps send that point home.

Once they get into the Jesus fairy tale they are screwed. A 33 year old Jewish man 2000 years ago who was not married would have been stoned to death so sick of it!

It is amazing in this day and age to still hear about bronze age religious wing-nuts who believe that natural phenomena are a curse from God. It must be really fucked up inside their heads.

The worst part is that these 'pastors' aren't unique, nor do they just speak for themselves. They represent the underpinnings of the conservative Republican party in the US and that makes them as dangerous as any medieval ayatollah in the middle east.

It's two idiot men who decided to call themselves pastors. It's not a group, it's not a political party. It's not the view of anyone but these two nuts.

I've had overnite to think about my response to this. I'm happy your country doesn't have "Christians" like ours. We have a ongoing problem with them over here.
Have you ever heard of the quote from Ghandi, I think. I like your Christ, I don't like your Christians.
My point exactly.
These people are destroying everything in the US. I will make a point every time to bring it to the front and let all see what they are doing.
I'm sorry if my thread upset you.

…he says from the relative luxury of a country where people can go about their daily lives without ever having to think about the religious opinions of their neighbours…

This particular article is about the sort of pastor who holds real sway in everyday American life, and real institutional power in everything from the school board to military barracks.

"Getting real" involves recognising that deformity and resolutely challenging it, and not allowing a few sensible moderates to provide cover for it or excuses for it. Yes, not everyone is a theocratic zealot. But that does nothing to free the country of theocratic zealotry.

These two "pastors" hold no sway, no power -- but you and blogs like Alternet continually put up people like this to bash -- and I suppose get your rocks off by hating someone.

I wonder about the ones in AZ then?

Uh...but he WAS killed by people - who merely chose an alternative to stoning to death. Killed by a bunch of people who lived their lives and beliefs via their Old Testament ideals, etc.

It's two idiot men who decided to call themselves pastors. It's not a group, it's not a political party. It's not the view of anyone but these two nuts.

WHAT? Just incredible.

You're trying to tell us that there are ONLY TWO PASTORS IN THE UNITED STATES with such fucked-up, retarded types of views? OK, maybe there aren't hundreds of thousands of pastors who believe that the wildfires were caused by gay marriage, etc., but there are hundreds OR THOUSANDS of other "attributed-to" beliefs out where which are just as insane or more so, promoted by these guys. (And, yes, it is almost ALWAYS men.) There are enough of them to have hijacked AN ENTIRE POLITICAL PARTY...which, if they had their way, would assure that your life would be a continuous hell on earth...because you're gay. They are OBVIOUSLY getting their rocks off by their extreme hatred of women right now - as well as their incredible hatred of people who might vote as Democrats. A group of humans cannot possibly be so extreme and zealous, if they're not "getting their rocks off" in some way or another, or absolutely lusting over their complete power-and-ego trips, and their rhetoric is 100% pure, unconditional hate nowadays.

They have been hijacked by the Pastors-of-Hate who appear on TV, and who preach from countless thousands of pulpits - including some major religious which may have, nowhere, even as many as one exception to this extreme hate...as well as the (secular?) radio talk hosts, who have virtually never said anything positive about anybody in years, but only spew hate and negativity continuously.

I have actually started going to an Episcopalian Church nearby. They DO NOT do this damned hate shit. However, it took me a lifetime to find a church which wasn't all about hate, fire, and brimstone.
