Multiple news sources are saying that Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin is Mitt Romney's running mate.

This is unconfirmed. Romney will officially announce tomorrow in Virginia.

If Paul Ryan is Mitt's pick, it's an interesting one.

Paul Ryan is favored (read: loved) by the fiscal conservative wing of the GOP. The social conservative wing of the GOP probably likes Ryan, but Paul Ryan is no Rick Santorum or Mike Huckabee or Michelle Bachmann.

My take? Mitt Romney wants to appeal to moderates, "swing voters", and people who voted for Obama in '08 but are now disillusioned with Obama cuz of the economy. Mitt's campaign is based strongly with fixing the economy, and Paul Ryan fits squarely w/ that message.

Oh, and Paul Ryan is from Wisconsin -- a traditionally Democrat state in pres. elections, but one that is now in play for the Republicans if Ryan is on the ticket

"Oh, and Paul Ryan is from Wisconsin -- a traditionally Democrat state in pres. elections, but one that is now in play for the Republicans if Ryan is on the ticket"

Not even close lol

I think this was a really stupid move on Romney's part, but I could be wrong. I just think Ryan is too extreme and too much of a liablity for Romney. I don't see how he can get independents with this choice and I don't know how he'll do against Biden in a debate. I'm sure he'll do better than Palin.

Well, what it boils down to is whether it is more important to attract Independents or rally up the base. Obviously, the Romney camp chose the later.

Yes, Conservatives hate Obama ... but if Romney would have picked another Moderate for his Running Mate, the Republican voters would have undoubtedly felt betrayed and given nothing but lip service during the Primaries to the point that may have been the straw that broke the camel's back with them. At that point, many of them may have well sat out.

I can see their logic and don't necessarily think it's a bad strategy. Yeah, you need Independents to win, but that won't matter much if your base is so fed up with you to the point where they simply will sit home in disgust.

Plus, what a coup if Ryan can deliver Wisconsin. But I did see back in 2008 where Ryan's own district voted for Obama.

I agree at this point that the Romney camp needed someone who was going to be a lightning rod and get people talking, other than a "safe" choice like a Tim Pawlenty. He needed life brought back into his campaign, and the uncharismatic Pawlenty might have been the final nail in the coffin.

No. That's assuming too much, mystik. They wouldn't have sat out if Romney picked a moderate. They would have bit their tongue and voted against Obama because they hate the man that much.

There is not justification in saying this is a good strategy. It's purely a bad one. Conservatives were going to vote for Romney regardless of who his running mate is... why do I say that? Because of their hatred of Obama.

Ryan delivering Wisconsin? Fat chance.

And it's a huge mistake on your part to underestimate independents like that. They are very much the reason Romney could be headed for defeat.

Obama Hate vs Being Betrayed by Someone In Your Own Party Who Outright Lied to You During the Primaries and Abandoned You in the General.

The feeling of being stabbed in the back by a 2-faced liar may have tipped the scales in Republicans either sitting home OR voting Libertarian in this one.

Again, from a strategy standpoint, can't say I disagree. Romney was in serious trouble with the base and needed to do something fast. Especially after his spokeswoman took up for Romneycare in MA and publicly stated it was a better plan that covered more people than Obama's plan. That was and IS a PR nightmare with Conservatives.

Add a Moderate to the ticket and that may have been it.

Regardless of either choice, I think he still would lose if he picked a Conservative or a Moderate. At the end of the day, the VP is more symbolic than anything. Just like Palin was. They wouldn't be given any real power other than what their boss would decide to give them. Ryan may be a staunch Conservative all he wants to be, but if Mitt wants to be a Centrist, then you will see Ryan become a Centrist as well.

It goes to show how the far of the GOP controls this party. Just Bush was pushed to chose Danny Boy 1988.

Oh please, oh please....................

Let him pick Ryan..............

Cool! ..|

So it will be Herman AND Eddie Munster on the republican ticket?

I'm guessing there's not going to be another Katie Couric gotcha interview this time around.

Not needed.

All they have to do is make Ryan defend a budget that rewards the richest by making the middle class bear the entire burden and helps to create a permanent shanty town underclass again.

This is a big news item no doubt. But I never would have imagined it would be as major as it already is. The cable media has all their big guys covering it. CNN had to wake Wolf Blitzer from his weekend slumber to cover it. Just from overnight coverage, Ryan is already more popular than Romney, maybe they should switch positions in the campaign.

Ryan will be popular over this next week or so while the media buzz is around him.

And then everyone will realize it is just the sound of flies.

The ONLY thing I know about Paul Ryan is that he's the Death Angel to The Poor and The Elderly...It's a known fact that he wants to pass a Huge ass bill doing away with programs that help the Poor get Food and the Elderly get discounted-Medicine....And let's not even talk about what he wants to do with Social Security...

President Obama served 10yrs as a State Senator and 2yrs as a US-Senator before he was elected...Paul's 14yrs in Congress meets the standard for what anyone should look for in a Veep candidate...

Other than that I know nothing else about the guy....I just wanna know ALL of his NAYS & YEAYS over the last 14yrs.....We've seen a lot of him over the last 4yrs but whate else has he done as a 7-term Representative other than work on budgets?

I will say this about Paul...I've watched him Direct/Speak @ a few of the Republican clinics/town-home meetings on C-SPAN and he's a very Smart man....When Paul speaks @ The Republican Convention he will do a "Sarah Palin" and tear Obama to shreds...So he does have the Chops to deliver a strong message to The Republican base...

I've seen Paul run-circles around Commentators and Broadcasting Anchors. He's handled himself in the Public very well during town-home meetings...So I'm gonna give Romney credit for picking someone that is ready for Primetime, ready to be Veep and President on day 1 and MORE than capable of doing interviews and carrying his own weight on the ticket over the next few months...

Starting Monday the Media need to Print & Report ALL of Paul's past & present Votes in Congress and dig up EVERYTHING on his personal life past & present...

It will be interesting when even the Catholic church is opposed to the draconian and punitive Ryan budget.

How are they going to spin that one for their hard core catholic voters.

Choosing Ryan was a gutsy move. It relies upon the intelligence of Independents to see that something must be done about the budget, including the long term problem of entitlements. The Republicans already know that. The Democrat base will never see that there is a problem; they will always fall for Hussein's demagoguery and class warfare--that's why they are Democrats.
Ryan is not the choice I would have made. But I am increasingly unsure that I want Romney to win. We have dug ourselves so deeply into debt that the next President is likely to preside over the sinking of the Titanic.

It's that type of attitude that the Republicans have had for four years which is why nothing gets done, including the fixing the budget. Rather than be willing to solve anything under BO's watch, since he was elected in 2008, they were determined to not cooperate at all, even for anything they agree with. And the worse part is, they want their big government paycheck for doing nothing; now that is extremely ironic of them.

You would fit in with them just fine, especially with your persistent ignorant name calling. Do you address everyone by their middle name? Or just black, Democratic US presidents?

Major news are saying Ryan was picked this AM at arount 7AM. Time to get started on spreading the word about Ryan.

Romney picks Paul Ryan as vice presidential running mate
By NBC's Domenico Montanaro and Mark Murray

Mitt Romney's campaign has announced that the presumptive GOP nominee has chosen House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate. The two candidates will appear together at a campaign event in Norfolk, VA Saturday morning.

The official announcement will be in front of the U.S.S. Wisconsin -- which just happens to be Ryan's home state.

After three sources close to the Romney campaign indicated to NBC News late Friday night that Ryan would be the pick, the Romney camp issued a press release just after 7:00 am ET, stating: “Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan: America’s Comeback Team.” Around the same time, the campaign’s “VP app” also announced that Ryan would be the choice.

I only started using his Muslim name after the Dems here persisted in the name Mittens and worse. When they stop, I will as well.
