Paul Ryan is Mitt Romney's running mate?

I only started using his Muslim name after the Dems here persisted in the name Mittens and worse. When they stop, I will as well.

The folks who say "Mittens" aren't demonizing an entire religion and culture and falsely associating Romney to it like you are with BO.

And I've seen local fans of Mitt here even call him Mittens. Not a big deal.

Major news are saying Ryan was picked this AM at arount 7AM. Time to get started on spreading the word about Ryan.

Romney picks Paul Ryan as vice presidential running mate - First Read

Romney picks Paul Ryan as vice presidential running mate

I think he was likely picked earlier this week at some point and simply kept hush hush. Major news outlets were reporting from an AP Source with credible knowledge that he "was going to be announced tomorrow (today)". That was all over the Internet and on the major news websites around 10-11 PM EST last night. It definitely wasn't today. Just officially announced today.

I'm going to love this ticket. All we need to do now is replay Ryan's statements about cutting seniors' socialism (Medicare, Social Security, etc.). This should be interesting.

Calling him his middle name deomonizes him and a religion and culture and associates him with it?? WOW That is better than I hoped for. People who live in glass houses.....

We can only hope that enough people will appreciate and understand an adult conversation about our problems. Not the Democrat base, of course, but Independent. It is dangerous. Adults don't discuss the household finances with the children. It scares the and they only want to know their goodies will keep coming.

Ryan the man.....Excellent choice. Smart man. Engaging. Relateable. Sincere. Conviction. Everything that Romney is not.

Ryan the Medicare killer....totally turns me off. Great plan but not somehing that thrills me given how much $ I've already poured into the program. He last stated that benefits would be unchanged for those already in Medicare. And they would grandfather it for those currently 55+. I don't have any desire to get to the door and have it slammed on me. I don't want to be one of the first wave of those Americans on private insurance during retirement. Anyone ever price how much insurance cost for older Americans?

Having just been through a few years of this with my Mom who recently passed, you don't want to know. Even with her own insurance and Medicare, it was a constant struggle. Enjoy your youth now without worrying about the honorific bills that await you for your senior years. Get rich now before it's too late.

It is fucking ridiculous. I pay for my 62 yo mother and 27 yo nephew who has preexisting conditions.... the healthcare law will put thousands back into my pocket and back into the economy.

Yeah, the problems the GOP created --just a few years ago-- and Ryan voted for what helped create the problems---it really is like an exterminator letting the roaches loose and then coming in 3 and a half years later and saying wow--your place is infested with roaches---plus--this ego maniac Ryan was just on live and looks so in over his head---and he had all the gravitas of a kid running for high school president---interesting to see how the dumb Americans who don't have a pot to piss in will react to this.

Husseins only program is tax the ricn and reduce the defict 16%. He is one of the chldren, focusing on the goodies without knowing how daddy earns the money.

Interesting (and promising choice); My first thought is that Paul Ryan will help solidify the large numbers of independent voters who have left Obama over the larger economic issues (consistently, among this group over the past several months the Repubs have maintained double digit leads over Obama percentage-wise, on these issues; the most recent numbers widely publicised this past week appear to be an anomaly - Time will tell). Paul Ryan's high profile association with budgetary and economic issues will also help direct and keep the political rhetoric and debate focused on the economy, and derivative issues like security and defense, where, again, the Lib Dem administration is most vulnerable. Interestingly, even where Paul Ryan is deemed to be a light-weight (foreign affairs) his recent speech at the Council of Foreign Relations he has shown an apt capability at pointing out Obama's failure to champion human rights, and Obama's ceding of our international moral leadership, which will also help winnow those who once held high regard for Obama from that camp.

BTW, just saw him speaking -- kinda hawt! :D

I saw another thread here that was dated back in April. Suggesting Ryan was the pick.

Oh, I had also intended to mention that the coupling of Paul Ryan strengthens the conservative base of support, where Romney falters. This includes the Catholics and Evangelicals who rallied around Rick Santorum, but were skeptical of Romney.

That is an absolutely true point. And that is what Obama doesn't want to do. Given his knowledge of the economy and his ability to articulate it and keep the focus on what Obama does not want to talk about, this makes Ryan a brilliant pick.

As Obamacare unfolds, everyone will observe other improvements in healthcare going into effect. We must remember that when Mittens becomes president, he will repeal it. Any senior with a "portfolio" of five figures will be thrilled.

I don't see what's so promising about that. Independents have been moving back to Obama in recent times and that's been accounted for in various polling, including those done in key swing states.
Paul Ryan has also pushed a tax plan that is incredibly unpopular with independents and even in his own state. The "lib dem" administration is vulnerable on issues like security and defense? They just need to push the fact that all these dictators fell and Osama Bin LAden was captured. Paul Ryan won't help Romney in foreign affairs...

And if anything, the economy is the last thing Paul Ryan should be discussing... considering he has some high profile errors in that regard.

Possibly -- The polling conducted was when Romney was the sole focus, however, it will now be interesting to see what the joining of these two fellows will result in.

I was going over some of the initial reactions in Wisconsin, and the conservative leadership (where support for Mitt Romney was grudging at best) are positive and enthusiastic.

Some of the polling recently of independents also shows a growing unwillingness to actually participate in voting this time around (allegedly, per the study I read) because of the Democrat's negative campaigning tactics).

It will be interesting to see if the Ryan selection revitalizes the interests and passions of this group.

Here is the Ryan announcement and his speech from this morning. Another gaffe by Romney in announcing him as "the next President of the United States". I believe Obama did the same exact thing when he announced Joe Biden back in 2008, as well.

No. This is exactly what you hoped for and intended.

The thing is, you might be able to get some uneducated hillbilly in West Virginia to buy into this but you are insulting the intelligence of everyone on this board by thinking that somehow this pitiful gambit works with the readers of these threads. It only makes you look like one of the ridiculous racist islamaphobes who post on Stromfront.

And stick to the topic. Spin any way you want, but the choice of Ryan as the running mate will now make the entire election about the Ryan budget and why it would be a disaster for America. Ryan is going to totally eclipse Romney from here on in...and not in a positive way. Romney will only look weaker.....Americans are going to have to look at Ryan and ask themselves if they would trust this man as President of their country. 1% of them might be sayin' 'Hell to the Yahh', but the rest of America isn't going to like this guy's vision for their country.
