Ok, this is a whinge, but it's irritating me. I went out on Friday night to catch up with a friend, and afterwards I went up to Oxford Street to have a few drinks and just relax. Work had been stupid-busy and I just wanted to relax.

I had a black laptop bag with me to carry my umbrella and my novel, but had left the laptop at home on Friday because I knew I was going out. I had it sitting at my feet under the table and when I went to leave the bag was gone.

I have no idea why, I usually have everything, wallet, phone etc in the front pocket of the bag, but for some reason I had it them in my pockets so I was lucky in that respect, however I had over $600 in the back of my bag so I didn't spend my board.

All in all, they didn't get anything but the money, but that someone would be able to take it from under the table, without me noticing has left me feeling kind of flat. It's not about the money or anything else that was in the bag, it's the fact someone just took it. I've had phones stolen in the past, but it never left me feeling this flat as having a ratty looking bag taken.

At least I had most of the important stuff on me, not in the bag. I'll get over it, and there was nothing in the bag with my address or anything, but it still annoys me that people seem to think stealing is acceptable. I wish I'd been there when they opened it and found a motley collection of crap, and I hope they were too stupid to open the note book.

lol, you're welcome to be a Pollyanna. I know there are people out there doing wonderful things for others, and I know that there are people out there who worry about a lot more than losing a bag. It just irritated me that it was able to be taken without me even noticing it.

YIGHTZ!!!

What a HORRIBLE thing to HAPPEN...

The only GOOD spin on your night -- is that it happened to a level headed guy (you)...

I would be FURIOUS!!!

:grrr::grrr::grrr:

.... It just irritated me that it was able to be taken without me even noticing it.
I feel for you, mate, and I know the feeling .... had my pocket picked on the Rome underground and was totally none the wiser for it till I went to retrieve my wallet after I got off the train. It was in an inside pocket in my coat, too, close to my chest and totally hidden from view. Luckily, my passport, credit cards etc were all locked away in the safe back at the hotel, so all I had in the wallet were some Euros. I'd heard that pick pockets were rife on the underground and very good at their craft, so I decided to play safe and was extremely relieved that I did! They sure are slick operators, the bastards!

so you lost a laptop with $600 cash gone.
I would be pissed and grumpy too ....

No Telly, there was no laptop in the bag. I left that at home on Friday. It just happened to be a laptop bag that had my book in it and my sunglasses. The money was tucked away inside the bag so I wouldn't spend it.

1. Never carry more than $100 cash.

2. always handcuff your bag to your wrist.

3. This sounds like an inside job.

4. Take comfort knowing that whoever took the cash will die a horrible, agonizing death with their corpse fought over by wild dogs.

It was not a good thing to happen, but it was fortunate you left your laptop at home and kept your money elsewhere. Perhaps it was because you knew you did not have much of value in the laptop bag that you were not as careful as you normally are.

No doubt the thief was assumed he hit big time with your bag - imagine his disappointment not to find your laptop in there!

That's horrible OP. If I lost six hundred dollars, I would be in tears. However, do believe that your thief will get theirs.

I would be in angry tears if someone stole $600 from me!!!

If I have a bag with me in public I always make sure to wrap it's strap around my leg or arm if I put it down, just in case anyone tries to take it. I am incredibly paranoid about it.

I had my wallet stolen at the gym about a year ago. I only had about 25.00 dollars with me and my bank cards. I must have noticed it right after they stole it because I called my bank and cc company before they got a chance to use them. I froze my credit so they couldn't open any new accounts and had new cards issued. I had to get my driver's license re issued which was a bit of a pain. The part that bothered me the most was losing the pictures of my children. I had their baby pictures etc in my wallet and we had given all of the others to relatives. I couldn't replace them.

I HATE thieves. Yes. They are indeed bastards and I can only hope it catches up with them at some point.

Sorry you had your belongings stolen. Did you report it to the place you were at and the police. They may have a cam that could have caught them in the act. Obviously they aren't allowed in the locker room at my gym so nobody was ever caught.

Steven.
