People pushing shopping carts and yapping on a cell phone are just about as bad as people on a cell whilst driving a car. They become oblivious to everything around them.

I went grocery shopping this afternoon and got stuck behind some ignorant bitch who was stopped right in the middle of the aisle and yapping away on her cell phone. I excused myself twice to get her attention (I didn't) and ended up having to tap her shoulder. When she turned around, she gave me a 'how dare you interrupt my phone call' look from her and was quite put out when she had to move to the side.

There seems to be no cell phone etiquette in the world today.

It's even worse when you're the cashier and the customer continues to yap away on their phone when the cashier is waiting for them to finish the transaction. It naturally became habit for me to say, "Excuse me, could you tell the person on the phone to call you back so you can pay for this?" Naturally, they didn't like it, but last time I checked, you still have to pay for your purchase.

I absolutely positively hate cell phones. I am glad that as of April 1, 2008 hand held cell phones are not allowed while driving in Quebec. Is life that important that you have to be reachable 24/7???? I hate them I really hate them!!! People are so rude. I know they are handy in an emergency but how many of these idiots are dealing with emergency's when they are on there cell phone???

 My very good friend and I have made several long trips by car lately. He spends hours on his cell phone and ignores me. The trips have been for his benefit. We have had several heated conversations about this. I think it is absolutely rude to ignore the one you are with to chat with someone else. :grrr:

A couple of weeks ago, I went to see a play and sat in a box seat, while watching the show, I keep seeing these small blue lights out of the corner of my eye, people checking their messages!!! Give me a break!! You just spent over $100.00 on a ticket, you're watching an amazing performance and you can't wait to check your messages!?!

I am a super speedy shopper. So I have anyone trailing behind me. I'm also very aware of my surroundings even when I am on the phone. I'm actually very shy so I make sure nobody is inconvenienced by me.

It's a new phenomenon - this needing to be constantly connected. People are just scared to be by themselves, even for a short while. They need constant reassurance that there are people out there they can connect with. It's pathetic, really.

Where I live, phones are banned from use by drivers, and hefty fines apply.

Is it really a new phenomenon to be so connected, or a cellphones just a new manifestation of this old reality. Humans, as pretty well established, are social creatures. As part of our intrinsic beings we crave to be part of a society/group. Cellphones allow us to integrate ourselves into the group more than ever.

However, one can take another look at it. Everyone speaks about how the world is so much more fast paced than it ever has been. The cellphone perhaps allows us to keep the same level of interconnectivity than before the 'globalised world.' In essence the cellphone is perhaps the smoke signal of the 21st century.

At your age, I'd be rather surprised if you have ever experienced using a public. There was a time not too long ago where phone booths were your connection to friends and family when you were away from home.

Phone booths often had doors on them and, in a bank of public phones, there were partitions separating the telephones. People were most often very polite and extremely private when using them. You rarely heard even one side of the conversation.

Courtesy went out the window with cell phones. In the beginning, they were status symbols. You were 'somebody' if you could afford one, and people who owned one made certain that everyone else knew about it.

Now, it's little more than disrespect in a great deal of cases.

I work in a retail store....I dont mind telling a person on a fucking cell phone to step aside till they finish thier call...fuck em!!!!

Its easy, just get out your phone and pretend to be calling, then ram her in the back of her legs, when she turns round and says something, glare and say can't you see I'm on the phone!

There are of course flaws and that is what sucks, but in theory, if these people who are rude with their cell phones didn't have cell phones, they would be doing something just as rude with out.

You are so right! Rude people will be rude no matter what type of technology is at their disposal.

I like my cellphone and my bluetooth headset, but I'm probably one of those that never comes even close to using my allotted minutes.

I'm always aware of what my environment is and considerate of others. I guess I'm a rarity.

I was checking a couple into the resort I work at and we were making chit chat. The husband told me he had had a quiet day at work and as soon as they hit the road to come up here his cell PHONES started ringing off the hook. He had 3 phones on him, 1 personal and 2 for work. I told him, you're on vacaton for the weekend, shut them all off! His wife applauded me! ..|

I don't have a cell phone. Maybe I can find a 'pretend' one in the local dollar store.
