Anyone see the recent National Association for Marriage commercials showcasing the Miss California contestant?

Thanks to the jackass dubbed Perez Hilton, the NAM now have a negative figure-head for the gay community.

In the commerical, we have a calm, composed and drop-dead gorgeous woman stating her beliefs in intelligent manner.

While we have Perez Hilton calling her c*nt on national television.

Oh, please. I think Miss California is wrong for what she said. But I stand by her right to voice her opinion however retarded it might be.

However, we do NOT need friggin' Perez Hilton, of ALL people to represent gay people for the advancement of gay rights.

I'm a realist. We need good marketing for gay rights. And who in the world actually LIKES Perez Hilton?

He's as disliked as George Bush!

And by the way... since that whole debacle.. I've had MANY thoughtful, intelligent conversations about gay marriage on the many "straight" forums I post to. And most people agree that she gave a dumb answer and regardless of what they think of Perez Hilton himself.. they support gay marriage and the incident got them talking about it.

So you can thank Perez Hilton for that. That's what he does.. he gets people talking.

From my experience, he's apparently converted people AGAINST gay marriage. Miss California may have given a dumb answer but she was truthful about it.

Perez Hilton, the low-life gossip vulture he is, only did it to boost his blog site ratings and has projected a negative image upon the gay community:

Which is what the conservatives are using as ammunition for their anti-gay marriage campaign.

They we are infringing their right to religous liberty and are going to force everyone to think like us.

Well, our community has ALL kinds of people, not all are 'likable'. But you know what? We could have freaking Bambi on our side, and the people that hate us, wouldn't care!


I am not a fan of gossip mongers, regardless of sexual orientation, but Perez Hilton, did not do a bad thing for bringing the issue of gay marriage to the forefront of the news. And for showing what kind of woman Miss California really is.

I've searched several times and I can't find any evidence that he said it on TV or anywhere else. Although there seem to be a lot of people who are sure he did...

That said, I still think he's an asshole. Of course I've always thought that, but now his assholeness is a matter of public record.

It's just super-tacky to accept a job as a pageant judge and then call one of the contestants a "dumb bitch" on your blog afterwards. Very unprofessional.

Especially when all she did was express an opinion that 58% of the people in the US agree with. If we've given up trying to change their minds, and don't give a fuck what they think, then vicious personal attacks and name-calling are the way to go.

If, on the other hand, you actually want marriage to become legal, as opposed to just coming on a gay forum and screaming your head off about it, then at the least you can hope for a slightly more persuasive spokesman...

Yeah, I think Perez Hilton is a joke. I hadn't heard of him until the pageant fiasco. But many folks in mainstream America already viewed LGBT folks in this capacity, so really, he hasn't hurt "the cause." The media depicts Pride parades as flamboyant, sexual, depraved spectacles. And lately, the GSA is depicted as a group of brainwashed kids who are forced to follow the rule of liberal,lawless adults. If these people are going to believe that Perez, who is nothing more than a gossip mongrel, represents the LGBT community, then we probably couldn't win them over anyway since those people aren't thinking logically.

Eh, they're both retarded.

Which is what I think gay activism needs.

We need an Obama.

We need a mainstream, likeable gay man/woman to be the figure-head for the gay community for the advancement of gay rights and gay marriage.

We DO not need a person like Perez Hilton speaking for us.

I'm just tired of the gay community being represented by gossip vultures, porn stars, B-list actors and drag queens.

They're a part of community but I'm a realist; African-Americans didn't gain civil rights without likeable, well-spoken figureheads at the forefront of their movement.

But isn't kind of obvious that there's a difference between what you might say to your friends, or on a gay forum, and what you can get away with saying in public?

I never thought he had any credibility, but for one brief shining moment he apparently had enough to get chosen as a judge for a lame-ass beauty pageant. Now he's blown even that.
