Perry's Role at Houston Prayer Rally in Question

I also wanted to say that I haven't checked into the thread yet as I've been off "toes in the water,, ass in the sand" Beach thingy.
I've been collecting Perry quotes and will join in tomorrow. I'm on my 3rd glass of wine, spaghetti, don't you know.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack
Just found this. If someone will post the video it's most important!!!

http://www.alternet.org/newsandview...s_"prayer-a-palooza_pray-tacular"/#paragraph3

Bill Maher Spoofs Rick Perry's "Prayer-a-Palooza Pray-Tacular"

Rick Perry descended upon evangelical party gathering "The Response" over the weekend, emphasizing that his presence there was not political, yet drawing a great crowd precisely because he is a political figure. Separation of church and state, ladies and gentlemen: in Texas, it does not exist! (For more on this, check out Alternet's Paul Rosenberg's deep expose on the ins and outs of The Response.)

I know some of you will probably pounce on me for saying this, but I don't understand what the big deal is about Perry headlining a "prayer rally" in Houston.

Religion (especially Christianity in the "Bible belt") is an important part of life for many Americans. If you're not relgious, that's perfectly fine too. Nobody forced anyone to attend that prayer rally against their free will.

What's wrong with Governor Perry praying for God "to protect President Obama?" That's what I heard he did. It was a good thing to do & a nice gesture.

Maybe this prayer rally wasn't primarily about politics, it was about appealing to people's sense of morality & belief in God to pray for our president, and pray for America as we are in very difficult times right now -- with the ongoing war in Afghanistan, and the economic crisis/recession at home.

Nice that you've removed all the veneer - for clarity sake

Club indoctrination appears to be complete :(

Oh and leave it to chance to once again have nothing of substance to add to the thread....only another finger wagging and displaying once again, an unbelievably unhealthy obsession with 'The Club'.

Why don't you add something on the subject about Perry's cynical and political use of speaking in tongues to razzle up the base?

These are the days of demagogues descending upon us; of those who would walk over top of Christ himself if they thought it would get them one more vote.

And once again Jayqueer, you demonstrate that you apparently can't even make the connection that all those people at that prayer service are the same ones that think you are sick and diseased....who will likely do whatever it takes to prevent you from marrying that hot white rich guy you have your eye on and who likely believe that what you want to do with men's cocks should be made illegal.

This isn't about prayer, which should be silent and solitary. This is about collective affinity and the massing effect. This is about demonstrating the superiority of the Christian faith in the US and the rise of the religious fundamentalism as a force in politics.

Thought chrisrobins comments yo JQ were way outa line - pretty certain they were

Funny how intolerance for others is such a basic principle for a gay men's political club
Bumping your own threads is bad karma I guess

^ Always the school monitor.

If the comments weren't directed at you, why not butt out for a change?

Let Jayqueer deal with it. Or provide a valid counterpoint argument instead of the endless chastising and reminding yourself that apparently you're not a member of some 'club'.

Which you are, or you wouldn't be wasting your time constantly upbraiding and castigating all the other members for always falling short of your expectations and standards.

Is it possible for you to actually address the topic of a thread?

^ the JQ personal attacks rise and they're lame

As is the club pile on mentality

And it's getting worse

Sad to see chrisrobin morph into disdainful meanness and snarkiness

Bad enough when it's 100 Bachman is a cunt posts

Worse when it attacks an individual who may not be right but has rights

On topic is

Ricks actions are not surprising and he's not in my top 5 for Pres list

You and yours should thank Rick for giving you a reason to be frankly

W/o Rick and Michelle bashing ud have a pretty open dance card

Where is Rodney King when we really need him?

^ Unlike there.

How about sticking to addressing the topic about the hijacking of Christ Himself to help get a fundie demagogue into the Oval office.

Wasn't this thing publicly funded?

I don't really care if it was privately funded, but if tax money was used, I hope the participating churches get taxed too.

hijacking?

funny for you to be referencing "demagogue" - as it is sorta what you do on a regular basis

as for Rick ........... he seems to be a popular non candidate today

and under the glare of the spotlight will become less popular i imagine

being christian is a very good thing and i wouldn't hold that against him

but i wouldn't want it be a priority in governing

Perry is declaring his run for the presidency this Saturday. Isn't this the governor who wanted to secede? If he hates the country so much, why would he even consider running it? :help:

That didn't take long.
