Perry's Role at Houston Prayer Rally in Question

That's funny... the founder of AFA thinks we're undermining the country since 1977, that's such a random year. :D

I know some of you will probably pounce on me for saying this, but I don't understand what the big deal is about Perry headlining a "prayer rally" in Houston.

Religion (especially Christianity in the "Bible belt") is an important part of life for many Americans. If you're not relgious, that's perfectly fine too. Nobody forced anyone to attend that prayer rally against their free will.

What's wrong with Governor Perry praying for God "to protect President Obama?" That's what I heard he did. It was a good thing to do & a nice gesture.

Maybe this prayer rally wasn't primarily about politics, it was about appealing to people's sense of morality & belief in God to pray for our president, and pray for America as we are in very difficult times right now -- with the ongoing war in Afghanistan, and the economic crisis/recession at home.

Let us prey. Dear Lord, bless our great country - except for the queers. Amen. Please see who funded this extravaganza. I know, the American Family Association loves us... six feet under. Get a clue.

Perry is declaring his run for the presidency this Saturday. Isn't this the governor who wanted to secede? If he hates the country so much, why would he even consider running it? :help:

Perry wanted to secede because a black man got elected to the Oval Office. Which in Texas Republican circles is the eighth level of hell, just below a Latina woman, but above a faggot of any stripe.

In case our resident apologists have forgotten, the Tea Party was right behind him on that.

I can only assume that Jayqueer likes the abuse these people heap on brown faggots of foreign origin (they tried calling Obama one of those once) because he deep down thinks he deserves it for being gay - and possibly brown.

Perry himself is as venal as they come, if anyone actually thinks he's sincere, I've got some horses I'd like to sell you.

More fucking "club" crap?
Flicker Face REALLY needs a hobby.

(That one's for the REAL old-time JUBbers. PM me for an explanation!)

"PM me"

Make sure they bring their pledge pins

As bad as Obama is...one has to look at this guy and his record to know it could be worse.

^^ Altho Perry "didn't" say it, it was certainly suggested as a possibility.
Don't come back with a liar, you don't know perry like Texans do. It WAS a suggestion.

Rick Perry said:
“Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that,” Perry said. “My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that.”

I dare Laika to make a similar statement, only using guns / bombs to the TSA security people at the airport and see if they laugh saying it was a good "talking point". A threat, is a threat, is a threat.

It's typical Teabagger talk trying to be cutesy and oblique when everyone knows exactly the meaning the speaker is angling at.

It's also the same kind of code all the bigots use in public, since they can't say ni**er lover, pickaninny and wetback anymore, they say welfare state, teen mother, and illegal, but everyone knows what they mean.

If I say "Nazi", I'll probably get a repremand. If I say "National Socialist" I may not. With apologies to Gertrude Stein, "a rose is a rose is a rose."

Thanks for the blogpost with the clip of what Gov. Perry actually said at the event. I want to offer a few general observations uncolored whatever direction the thread may have subsequently taken.

Perry began by separating God's agenda (salvation) from those of political parties and human organizations. He then read three passages from the Bible which I presume are keynote passages for the whole event. He then said a prayer that asserted that the event was a response to God's call for public fasting in mourning for falling short of God's standards.

So far so good, I guess. The question then becomes, "What are those standards from which America has departed?" Whatever else the Governor may have included in these standards, he must also have included the values represented by the American Family Association and most particularly its anti-gay agenda.

The Governor's words were facially generic Christian, but their historical occasion made them anything but that. Although he never said the word 'gay,' his remarks were about as vicious as any diatribe against gay people and their well-being as anything I could imagine.

Look folks, this event is not some namby-pamby National Day of Prayer sort of thing. This event is the real deal.

Now, I'll read the rest of the thread and see what I want to respond to more directly.

Thank you for your comments on this.
I trust what you have to say as I'm sure you know a lot about Perry, or a lot more than me.
I do not spend enough time watching our state politicians and I guess I must do it now.

Forget about whether it was publicly or privately paid for. Forget about whether prayer is in principle a good thing. Even forget about whether Gov. Perry is sincere in his faith. (He is.) The real story is the merging of political action with spiritual warfare. That is the work of (among others) C. Peter Wagner.

This seven-page article lays out the message, the method, and the players involved in what amounts to a form of Christian Reconstructionism (and if that term doesn't strike fear in your heart, you just don't know). In the end, none of the rest of it matters.

YOU NEED TO READ THIS.

I read something about Christian Reconstructionism awhile back and it was scary. Thanks for the read.

That's a lot of history to ingest. I don't recall how deep Perry is involved with this reconstructionism movement. Is there a anything to fear what he might bring to the election?

Well, he's not as bad as Bachmann. Well, maybe he is, but he's not as outspoken as she is.

^^^BUMP
…I am absolutely underwhelmed by the CE&P response to this event. … - the silence is deafening here.

I suspect sensible men avoid this CE&P Snake-Pit because the bully-boys gang-up on newcomers and start personal bitching on anyone with an alternative viewpoint.

I think the beliefs of (certain) others here suck. Sue me. :bartshock
