Pluto no longer a planet

This sucks. And now it fucks up Sailormoon, too.
Not really. The manga has he Asteroid Senshi in it (Ceres, Pallas, Vesta, and Juno) and the Starlights and Animamates, so Pluto still stays. Besides, from what I can gather, there isn't really a Japanese word for planet, so they use star. [Geekdom blurb] Sailor Pluto's speech literally says "My guardian is the star suspended in time and space; the soldier of revolution, Sailor Pluto." [End Geekdom Blurb]

Maybe we should just use the word "star" also? :gogirl:

Yeah, but still...There were always the 9 chief Sailor Senshi and the Four Asteroid Senshi. Now Sailor Pluto will have to be the 5th (or 1st) and will be downgraded to just protecting Sailor Chibi Moon instead of Sailor Moon.

The 'true' ruling planet for Scorpio is (and always has been) Mars.

Pluto was given 'rulership', following its discovery in 1930, by a bunch of misguided Astrologers, who clearly had no real understanding of the symbolic nature, and structure, of Astrology. Unfortunately, most New Age Astrologers accept this spurious Plutonian rulership of Scorpio as a matter of course. Many believed (and probably still believe) that two more planets would be discovered; one to replace the Venusian rulership of Libra, and the other, the Mercurial rulership of Virgo. Some, jumped ahead and began using the minor planetoid Chiron as 'ruler' of Virgo. Whilst others began cluttering their charts with all manner of Asteroids, Minor Planets, and any other bits of space-gravel that took their fancy.

In Classical Astrology*, each planet (except for the Luminaries) holds rulership over two signs (for symbolic reasons far too boring and esoteric to explain here). The associations of Uranus with Aquarius, Neptune with Pisces, and Pluto with Scorpio, are some of the main reasons why Modern Astrology is such a load of bollocks.

* ie, the type of Western Astrology practised for thousands of years prior to the discover of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, which sent pseudo-astrolgers into a blind panic as they tried to shoe-horn them into the traditonal Astrological system.

Here, endeth todays pompous, opionated lecture on "Why Modern Astrology is Shite!"

Hmm...tell that to Jeffrey Wolf Green...

But seriously, to make such a statement just smacks of fundamentalism to me. I think you can get profound, incisive, and reliable results whether you confine yourself to the original 7 or use TNO's. As a system of symbols and archetypes, Astrology is an ART as much as it is a "science". IMHO, this is the reason why both Western and Vedic Astrology (which have entirely different approaches) work.

The so-called "demotion" of Pluto, won't diminish its use or importance in Astrology. It is merely a change in classification from a planet to a dwarf planet (one that a sizeble portion of the astronomical community contests).

Big Woop. Pluto was always a small planet.

the one and only time anyone has ever called hoody a fundamentalist anything... :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

i know the whole thing is a creation of my people, but astrology has just mystified me all my life.

its like a jigsaw puzzle to me

So you're Egyptian, or Chaldean? :p

haha

and you havent lived till you've heard Shapespeare as written originally in arabic either...

Actually I was refering to the syrian connection to babylon and the perfection of the process by the greeks and the romans.;)

And Sailor Pluto was my favorite senshi, too!

I seem to have missed so much by not watching season 5 yet.

Guess I will have to go with mars now....

... She is actually one of my favorites, too, so no biggy.

Poor Pluto. I hope it writes a strongly worded letter to its MP (or something like that)

And i wanted a planet called Xena :(

Maybe us Scorpios (and the Sailor Pluto fans out there, as well) should revolt. Pluto had his helmet of invisibility. The scientific community wants to make Pluto "invisible" from the list of planets. I say we show them just how hellish we can be when we act in unison. First, I say we kidnap anybody named Persephone or Proserpina...

Well, I don't care what all these science types say. I'm going to continue to regard Pluto as a planet. That poor little rock is probably feeling all low and such no thanks to all this talk. Science can be so mean sometimes. ;)

I also heard that if the the '10th' planet was going to make it, they were considering naming it Persephone (or, I guess to follow Roman continuity, Porserpine).

Oh well...*sigh

If Sailor Pluto gets etched out and the Princess only has 7 senshi to protect her then I guess it all ends when Prince Diamond put those two ginsuishous together since she certainly won't be there to stop time. Poop.

our little saying in grade school was

my very eager mother just served us nine pickles.

wonder if they will rename the last episode that william hartnell played the only doctor in, from "the 10th planet" to the 9th planet.

I just signed an online petition. I know views are divergent, and those who don't agree can just skip it, but for like minded persons, Please Save Pluto. My views are posted there.

I signed the petition, too. Like I posted there, there isn't a lot of similarity between The inner four 'rocky' planets, and the outer gas giants. If they want to call Pluto (and Xena, and Ceres) a dwarf planet, that's fine. But make it a subclass, don't start demoting planets for no good reason.
