Hey, Lefty O'Foole Burns O'Toole,
Fear not the new wave,
They think it's the Rave,
But Love and Friendship will not Cave,
Sooner or later they might learn to behave.
And not in the conformist sense,
Aside from tolerance, mense.
They rail at false injustice and tense,
for the grass is always greener
on the other side of the fence.
But when youth has had a year or two,
to age, simmer, blend, stew,
The wisdom of the School of Hard Knocks,
They, too, will discover when knocked from their box.
Proctor & Gamble their carton did hew
For Tide or Gain or something blue,
They claim the wisdom of ages you see,
but, not having lived, can't hope to be,
half as wise as you or me.
I am no great genius,
I claim no degree,
For I, too, attended the School of Hard Knocks,
and still take a course now and again don't you see,
For in the final analysis,
we're our OWN worst enemies, I think you'll agree.
And with this last rhyme
I think it be time,
to head off a bit,
and not dig a pit.
Fear not the new wave,
They think it's the Rave,
But Love and Friendship will not Cave,
Sooner or later they might learn to behave.
