Re: Roe v. Wade being OVERTURNED by SCOTUS
After Data runs the test and the Exocomp apparently fails, he talks to Dr. Crusher as shown in the video. He returns to his testing area and reruns the test over and over with the same result. During one of the tests, Beverly joins Data and they begin talking. As Data is distracted, the Exocomp returns without being recalled, but it has a different tool which it apparently created. Beverly apologises for the distraction but Data is pleased with the results. He realises that the Exocomp realised that the test was a simulation and was never in any actual danger. It created the tool to turn of the explosion. Beverly comments: "The exocomp didn't fail the test; it saw right through it."
Down on the surface, Geordie and Picard are examining the work going on there when the particle stream begins fluctuating and the room begins to fill with radiation. The Enterprise, with Ryker in charge, manages to evacuate the work crew but Geordie and Picard become trapped. Geordie sets up shields to protect himself and the captain so they can't be beamed up. The only way to escape is to disrupt the particle stream. Dr. Farallon says she can disconnect the Exocomp's command pathways and beam the Exocomp into the beam. The explosion from the Exocomp's power source would disrupt the beam.
Hearing this, Data realised that he can't allow that to happen and locks out the transporters. Ryker discovers this when he commands the transporter to beam down 3 Exocomps and is furious that Data refuses to release the transporter. It is suggested that the Excocomps' command pathways are reinstated and give them the choice of beaming down. Data agrees. Dr. Farallon reinstates the command pathways, enters the task, and Data releases the transporter. The Exocomps create a new tool, beam down, surround the particle beam, and activate the tools. Light beams activate and Geordie soon realises that the Exocomps are bringing particle beam back into alignment. They succeed, Geordie drops the shield, and he and Picard are beamed aboard the Enterprise. Picard immediately orders the Exocomps to be beamed aboard as well, but only 2 of them arrive. Data realises that one of them voluntarily had to stay in order to maintain the particle beam, allowing the other 2 to escape while facing its own destruction.
Dr. Farallon becomes a 'believer' and says that things will change.
Here is the final conversation between Data and Captain Picard:
Viruses aren't technically alive....but that's another debate.
How does this episode end?
