I also see this as a brilliant, if somewhat heavy handed, strategy....undermining the style of the entire Trump messaging campaign that has been used to belittle and insult and drag down the dignity and credibility of the Presidential office.
As you note, it exposes the farcical nature of the Trump supremacy.
And it fights Trump's fascist dictates with humour, which we know, fascists can't abide. But backed up by real power moves in this case, designed to protect the last shreds of democracy in the US.
While he may not be to everyone's taste, Newsom emerges as the vocal leader that the Dems and even the independents against Trump need and along with Pritzker can hopefully
block the moves by Republican states to make next year's elections enable a totalitarian seizure of the federal government.
