^Unless you're a white guy accused of rape and your dad is golf buddies with the prosecutor's office, or you break into the capitol trying to lynch the vice president to overturn an election, then you get virtually no time at all. You can even request the judge let you go on a Tunesian vacation while you're on trial!
The whistle's become a megaphone. It's ironic we exonerated the govt for 3 centuries of crimes against humanity but after 20 years of inner city crime we want justice on steroids for non violent offenders.
I'm not sure how committing any crime justifies slavery but if we could figure that out we wouldn't be having this conversation. Our enlightened descendants will marvel at the hypocrisy corruption and enthusiastic bigotry. We'll be the "Don't " example of societies.
