The argument that you must be armed to protect yourself from the government these days is utter bunk. If the gov. wants you gone, you're gone, no matter how well you're armed. "Play soldiers" don't have a chance against real ones.
It's also true that it is the MAGA right screaming "Call out the troops!" when the citizenry exercises their constitutional right to protest, or some orange clown wants to stroll across the street to mock Christianity. If anyone should be armed to the teeth it's the left!
I'm all in favor of RESPONSIBLE gun ownership, well regulated with reasonable conditions.

I do not in any way support, accept, or necessarily believe what follows - the Klan in every way was evil, despicable, irredeemable and vile.

I can remember several occasions when my Great Grandmother supported and defended the Klan. She said they were the only defense Southern people could rely on, and yet, even she was aware that the hoods and robes were instruments of terror. They all knew who was under the hood. Anonymity was not the point. Demonstrations of violent repression with impunity was the point. When you saw the hoods go by, you knew what was going to happen.

Part of that legacy has been passed on to White racist, Suburban commandos and their fetish for the AR-15. They want black people to see the gun and be afraid. They want Black people to see that there will be no justice. It's the same thing.

As vile as the Klan is, the real stormtroopers of Jim Crow were the cops, they lynch happened, the cross was burned, then the Sherriff came back without his hood and did nothing, and everyone knew this was the reality.

Yeah, I kept saying that during the Trump years, and unless he gets convicted and locked up I may be saying it again during more Trump years.

After all, protecting the right to keep and bear arms was originally a liberal idea meant to guard our liberties.
