Massacres do not change the monument. It wasn't placed there as an act of conquest or anything like that. It was put there because the mountain was conducive to the work.

Shitting on the monument is merely a cheap shot without context. Anyone could demand the destruction of all of NYC and Montreal in the same "reasoning," but that wouldn't have the same audience or pop. Would be too close to home. It's easier to pretend there is some great virtue in undeveloped forests thousands of miles from civilized cities.

It has become fashionable to perpetuate shame of the European conquest while ignoring the massacres carried out by indigenous people against their neighboring tribes over and over and over.

Sorry, we don't all sacrifice at the altar of the Great White Satan propaganda. Being a successful conqueror doesn't make us more reprehensible than the less successful conquerors who were fighting here before us.

Central and South America and Africa are largely ruled by their indigenous peoples. Celebrate them.

Canada and Europe, for all their promotion of the Great White Satan self-hate, are all successors to conquering tribes. Canada is ruled by descendants of European conquerors. Europe is ruled by the descendants of Goths, Gauls, Vikings, Normans, and before them, Romans and Greeks, all of whom conquered lesser tribes.

Imagining that the winners turn around and leave centuries later is more mythical than Marian Chronicles.
