Is in a fantasy novel. Part-time jobs these days have wildly irregular hours, varying from week to week. There's no way someone could coordinate six jobs.

That's why I referred to gigs. If you're counting driving for Uber as one, and driving for Lyft as another, and sometimes sitting through a night shift at the funeral parlor on call when you are willing, then maybe.
But my point is still the same.
In my immediate circle is a janitor at my building. He works 2nd shift. The building is about 200 people, but not really, as most days it is only half full or less.
The day shift keeps six small bathrooms stocked and cleanish. There are five kitchenettes in the building. Two janitors tend to them during the day, but then sit down about half the day and wait. Second shift comes in at 3:00, which is three people. They empty wastebaskets, clean bathrooms, and sit down for more than half their shift.
He has another job on weekends, although this one pays insurance.
He has a first wife and kids he has to support. But, he's not overworked. It's just his way to get ahead, etc., with no job training or education. He's doing fine.

I think I get it.
"Freedom" isn't imbued with any nobility. It's not about leadership, forms of government, rights to worship or be free from it, or about taxation.
It's about the Me Generation(s).
Don't tell me what to do. You can't make me wear a mask. My children cannot be forced to study evolution or see gay couples as equal in the law.
You cannot tell me my church cannot gather in crowds of 10,000 weekly during an airborn virus pandemic.
I have the absolute right to carry a gun, any time, anywhere.
It's all about turning the tide that they failed to turn legally or legitimately.
If the government no longer delivers what I see as right, I'm fine with bringing down 200+ years of history to simply have my side "win."

It's the Me Generation. As successive generations have sheltered their offspring and developed a sense of entitlement, it was only a step away to develop the notion that the goverment cannot tell you what to do.^ Also the cry emoji....what happened to the US?
Specifically, Vietnam and Watergate were the pivots. Once it became undeniable that the government regularly lied to the populace on the most important matters, then authority was eroded with respect.
Every time SNL mocked the presidents after that, and every other satire maintained that government is a joke, then the foundations were laid, brick by brick, LEGO by LEGO.
Now, we are here. Citizens increasingly only comply with laws they view as legitimate.
It also explains the broad spectrum violence where individuals act out against co-workers, classmates, or the government. If the world isnt' going your way, it's the fault of those trying to impose their will on yours. Kill 'em.
Even now, we see media stories about conservation and the environment as lessons taught to kids about good citizenship, but the reality is that the vast majority of kids and young generations are no less materialistic than the older generations, and recycle even less. Just can't be bothered to put an aluminum can in a different trash bin.

Not that it isn't funny, but what did he say that makes him repressed as a closeted man? He sounds simply retrograde, wishing for a male-dominated hierarchy, the one depicted to America in the 1950's, so his grandparents' values. I don't see the gay theme, just the jock-brained one.
It's almost like the meme is using gay to insult a professional athlete in retaliation.
