Pope Francis meets secretly with Kim Davis on US trip

The critics of the Pope's meeting with a homophobic bigot during a papal state visit have been vindicated by the Vatican.
Agreed.
The criticism itself very likely elicited the Vatican's ultimate response.
Agreed.
I'm not sure that more remains of my main point than that.

Well, you could try to not utter your shoal heinous-back-alley-diagnostics ("battered wife syndrome"), I suggest.

He addressed climate change. I think it is more important than gay marriage.....

His position on gay marriage is consistent with Kim Davis's opinion...so there is no story IMO. I don't get why anyone is surprised or outraged about this. It isn't as if he changed his mind about anything overnight. He agrees with Kim Davis..why is anyone surprised by that?

Here's the transcript of the official statement from the Vatican responding to the various insinuations on that meeting between Francis, and Kim Davis:

I quote. :
The brief meeting between Mrs. Kim Davis and Pope Francis at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, DC has continued to provoke comments and discussion. In order to contribute to an objective understanding of what transpired I am able to clarify the following points:

Pope Francis met with several dozen persons who had been invited by the Nunciature to greet him as he prepared to leave Washington for New York City. Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the Pope’s characteristic kindness and availability. The only real audience granted by the Pope at the Nunciature was with one of his former students and his family.

The Pope did not enter into the details of the situation of Mrs. Davis and his meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position in all of its particular and complex aspects.

The highlighting is mine.

Let me, again, point out that being obsessed with virtually ALL major religious bodies' stance on "fornication vs. marriage" (and particularly the Roman Catholic Church's stance) is completely POINTLESS.

Because: there are much MUCH IMPORTANT topics, namely the WORDLY authorities' stance.

E.g.: http://www.justusboys.com/forum/threads/442079-Court-case-on-pension-rights-for-gay-couples

Again, no one would give a damn about these religious pontifications, except that the churches refuse to allow the rest of the world to go about their business in these "worldly matters" without meddling.

A pope could say nothing.

A pope could even say "We recommend that catholics should not be part of a same sex marriage where it is legal to do so, but the validity of equal marriage for people outside the church does not concern us. Have a nice day." And then no one at all would have reason to complain about them.

It is their grotesque interference and meddling in the lives of others that provokes such criticism. People have every right to defend against their hostile behaviour. They are the living example of "I'm on a diet so you can't eat cake." Except it's "I'm denying dignity and equality so you can't enjoy basic human rights."

And it is not a glib attack above, btw, their hatred presented under a varnish of supernatural compassion does indeed do as much damage to young gay people as spousal abuse. Imagine a spouse so cruel that he can get his partner to hate himself to death. Or, of course, herself, if you're a catholic.

This.

There are so many ways that 'Christians' and the Catholic Church could quietly and graciously deal with this.

Francis and the Church have blown it with this synod. All it does is cement the right wing hardliners and evangelicals as being the face and voice of the church. In doing so, they end up sounding as hateful and exclusionary in their faith.

No wonder that European and North American Catholics have turned their back on the bells and smells nonsense and are moving on with life outside communities of faith.

Agreed.

Really? See post #24, etc.
Yeah...their positions are the same ...

From The Advocate http://www.advocate.com/marriage-equality/2015/10/06/heres-what-pope-says-about-same-sex-marriage

But Pope Francis also stressed the “true meaning of the couple and of human sexuality in God’s plan” is marriage between one man and one woman.

^^Sounds like Kim Davis to me^^

I know they repeat a lot of crap about loving the sinner and hating the sin...like pulling the string on a talking Barbie Doll...or preaching about compassion as though we have some sort of disability or disease...I don't count any of that....

The only thing I think he has done is indicate he doesn't want to throw us into a pit of vipers. A lot of them would if they thought they could get away with it.
