A CNN/ORC International poll released Tuesday echoes the nation's displeasure with congressional leaders. Eighty-four percent of the nation disapproved of the way Congress is handling its job in the poll; only 14 percent approved.
But the country is split over how the president is handling his responsibilities in the White House. Forty-eight percent said they approve of how President Barack Obama is handling his job and 47 percent disapprove in the CBS News/New York Times survey.
When it comes to the debt-ceiling negotiations, 66 percent said they disapprove of how Democrats handled the talks and more – 72 percent – said they disapprove of the way Republicans negotiated to broker the deal.

If anyone had any doubt, one more poll to indicate the rage the nation is feeling towards congress and who is to blame for the mess and fiasco that resulted in the GOP manufactured emergency.

Obama is back up to 48 percent approval rating, with a lower 47 percent disaproval. The GOP has 72 percent disaproval on how they handled the self created emergency.

It gets worse when you ask voters to compare the who was more responsible for the crisis....

Half say Republicans in Congress compromised "too little" during negotiations, compared with Democrats: roughly one-third say they compromised the right amount or too little and 26 percent say they compromised too much.
Republicans are also more to blame for the budget standoff in the survey – 47 to 29 percent – over the president and Democrats in Congress.

Forty seven percent blame the republicans, and that would have to mean Boners crowd of teabaggers, while 29 percent lay the blame for the mess on the president and the dems.

GOPpers? Bad news guys.

You boys just bought yourself a broken economy. Hope it serves ya well as you pack your offices and say bye bye.

will the last tea bagger please catch the lights on their way out? ..|

I just hope people remember all of this when the 2012 elections roll around. I know I sure as hell won't forget.

S&P and the white house are now in negotiations to stop the downgrade. The decision has been made it seems.

Without revenue increases, no one believes the US will be able to pay their debt.

By 2012, things are going to be very bad. People are doing without and for what?

With all due respect, I don't think Obama is going to win re-election. I know of many people who voted for Obama, who will be voting for the Republican next time. But I don't know anyone who voted McCain last time who will vote for Obama in 2012.

No incumbent president with an unemployment rating as high as it is right now, has won re-election. Obama is the new Carter.

My dad is really active in Republican political circles and he talks all the time about how unified & fired up conservatives & Republicans are -- because they want to get Obama out of the White House.

I think we need to get ready for a Republican president in 2013.

That makes me very happy

Obama's poll numbers are going to drop like mad now...........esp. because America's credit rating has been downgraded for the first time in history...........and it happened under Obama's watch.....

your happiness that america is harmed is noted. The polls all indicate however that the glee you are now expressing is the very reason why the GOP will be held to blame for this.

Your party is willing to tear down a nation just to hurt a presidency.

As an american you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Clapping for an economic disaster is pathetic.

What's really sad Jay, is the Republicans have been so fired up to get rid of Obama since day one that that's all they've been working on. They've been obstructing every positive piece of legislation and have voted against what their constituents have asked for (60% of Republicans supported a mix of cuts and revenue increases to reduce the debt and avoid default and downgrading our AAA rating).

Sadly though, our Government is so broken and so dysfunctional and so selfish, that we deserve the downgrade.

Until anyone sees a competent GOP candidate step up, Obama is basically a shoe-in. Romney had his chance but irked his chances of wooing blue-dog democrats with his anti-gay pledge.

Real Clear Politics shows the average for all polls to be disapproval on Obama at 50% and approval at about 44%. FOX actually had the most favorable numbers for him if you look at it.

Unemployment at over 9%. Debt being downgraded. He's pretty much toast at this point.

But never underestimate the ability of the republicans to step on their own dicks.

Agreed. Now, the taint of the tea party and the credit downgrade will make a GOP candidate own the economy more than even Obama. They overplayed their hand, and the entire world caught them at it. They brought down the gov't by design for political capital.

There are no GOP candidates who can rise above that reality. None of them came out against the tea party during the negotiations but McCain, and he was LAST terms candidate...lol.

All the candidates sat silent, afraid to take a stand in an election year on the tax issue, because they KNEW that next year taxes have got to be raised, yet they just sat as boehner burned down the nation in the house of reps.

Frankly it doesn't matter how you or your dad vote. California's electoral votes will be going to Obama.

The party voting against someone loses every time. It happened to Dems with Kerry vs Bush, and happened to Reps with Dole.

Any hypothetical polling is worthless when there isn't a confirmed candidate yet.

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

-- Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), in an interview with the National Journal, describing his goal in retaking the Senate.

^ One last time....

President Obama may be polling well after the debt ceiling poll, but he's in a tough situation. I think a lot of people who voted for him certainly won't vote for Republican, but the question is will they ever vote again?

People are going to vote for whoever they believe has their self-interests at heart, primarily economic self-interests.

Unless the President is willing to soften his position and consider anything other than military job programs, I think they are going to feel that he is as tone-deaf as the Republicans.

He's been firm in his commitment to only grow jobs through the military, and I think that is going to be a tough position in this election. It's both expensive and unsustainable. Everyone can't be a warrior, even if that is their only hope for a good job with benefits. He could have done something with the space program (but didn't consider that militaristic enough I guess?) Instead, he let all the high-tech and inovative jobs go away.

I think whoever will come out in support of job growth may have a chance, and that puts some otherwise sketchy candidates into play.

Aren't some people about as thick as two short planks.

Those who are applauding (?????????) the downgrade of US credit because it may lead to the defeat of the incumbent president should actually expect the downgrade of debt to be laid at the feet of the Republican Congress and the T-baggers as well as the White House.

And you are using a clapping smiley?

I agree with Pirate. You really ought to feel ashamed. Really, really ashamed.

BTW What happens to all those manchildren living at home with their parents if the economy fails?????

WTF.

Huh? Provide some evidence that Blue Dog Democrats are completely turned off by Romney for doing that. The fact of the matter is most Blue Dogs are actually against gay marriage. You're lying to yourself if you think he's a "shoe-in." Obama has lost the majority of Independent voters with his 54% disapproval rating.

He's not even winning Florida right now. His disapproval rating there is 50%

He's tied with Romney at 44%. With Rubio campaigning for him down there, Romney will take the Sunshine State.

And let us not underestimate the Democrats ability to snatch defeat out of the mouth of victory either! ..|

This Democrat has watched my party, time and again, have right and reason on their side, only to capitulate to the right all in the name of "compromise."

Republicans view "compromise" as a sign of weakness and fuck the Democrats and the American Middle Class with it every time.

What American needs right now is some leadership.

And if anyone think that the current GOP Republican Primary Candidates have a shot at winning right now are deluding themselves.
GOP Candidates Attack Obama Policies With Jobs Report

If all that the GOP and their candidates can do over the next 15 months is to obstruct, and point fingers at Obama I doubt very seriously that they'll get any votes beyond their most hardened base.

Most Americans that I know, including my predominately Republican extended Family, don't have any problem finding who to blame.

What MY family, and my Republican cousins, and this Democrat are looking for right now is who's going to lead us out of this mess.

The more that the GOP latches themselves onto the Tea Party, the more that the GOP will continue to marginalize themselves against the less than right, leaning toward moderates that currently remain in the GOP.

I doubt very seriously that God, Guns, and Gays will help the GOP during this upcoming election cycle.

Americans tend to vote with their wallets, and pending a wholesale buyout of our political system after the Citizens United verdict handed down by the SCOTUS, the Democrats will once again win by default, including Obama.

I agree centex, and the sad part is, once again.. america must choose between the lesser of two evils. We will have no good option.

That reality brought us two terms of Bush.

Campaign law needs to be overhauled and when we as voters make our choices on where to go from this point on, we need to include THAT. Corporate money needs to be taken out of the campaigns of america.

we also need a supermajority of dems in the senate to get rid of the senate filibuster, and THEY have GOT to get rid of it.

ANY politician from ANY party that has these things on their agenda as candidates will get my vote. The dems will take the house, gain seats in the senate, and keep the white house.

We need to make sure they KNOW what to expect or they will be tossed into the same junk pile the nation is about to toss the tea party.

God Bless you BP but you're such an optimist.

Bush43 didn't when the Popular Vote back in 2000 (as you and I are aware).

That's undisputed historical fact! ..|

When Bush43 was sworn into office in late winter/early spring of 2001, Republicans controlled both houses of Congress.

Bush/Cheney went about running roughshod over this country as if they had a Mandate from the American Electorate.

The GOP invoked 9/11 so many times during both the 2004/2006 elections you'd think that they were asking someone to call the cops.

Oh wait! The Department of Homeland Security. The largest growth of the Federal Government since FDR!

By 2006 the American Public got wise, and the GOP lost Control of both houses of Congress sine 1994.

Remember 1994?

The first time that the Republicans controlled both house of Congress since what the 1950's?

Remember 2006?

The Dems got one of the houses of Congress back.

Remember 2008?

Bush/Cheney/Rove did such a shitty job that the GOP lost the White House, elected our first "African-American" President, that's how bad they did. Even the bigoted racists in this country voted for Obama.

And they've spend the past 3+ years acting like White Trash at a Central Texas trailer park swearing up and down that they were drunk when "they did it," and their new mistress is now the Tea Party.

We've been fucking the American Middle Class since 1994, but "It ain't mah baby!"

And where were the Democrats?

"What? We won? How'd we do that, and how do we do it again?"

And we could all find ourselves living a trailer park if we're not careful, and be thankful for it.
