Kash Patel fires FBI agent trainee for displaying gay pride flag
The FBI employee was fired on the first day of the government shutdown as President Trump threatened more terminations.
FBI Director Kash Patel on Wednesday fired an agent in training for displaying a gay pride flag on his desk while appointed to a field office in California last year, according to three people familiar with the matter.
The trainee, who previously worked as an FBI support specialist in Los Angeles, received a letter — dated Oct. 1 and signed by Patel — claiming he had displayed an improper “political” message in the workplace during his assignment in California under President Joe Biden, according to a copy of the letter shared with MSNBC....
The agent trainee, who had most recently been assigned to the FBI Academy in Quantico, won an Attorney General’s Award in 2022 in recognition of his work, according to a Justice Department news release.
After the inauguration, one person said, FBI agents warned colleagues that they heard new pro-Trump appointees installed at the FBI were combing through internal employee files to find lists that identified employees as LGBTQ.
Unsurprised. So, they're identifying LGBT employees and finding reasons to fire them... like displaying a pride flag?

Here's the scariest part:
The problem is that during Pride Month, the buildings where these employees worked also displayed the same flags. They also picked the wrong employee, because trying to pin a "DEI hire" label on him/her is specious, given that the employee won the Attorney General’s Award in 2022.Unsurprised.
And they can say it wasn't because the person is lgbtq...only that they displayed a political item at work. PAtel will want to be careful though because there are rumous about him out there as well.
If we had a dollar for 'one of the things the Demsmneed to take up/should have taken up', we'd be as wealthy as Musk. The problem is that during Pride Month, the buildings where these employees worked also displayed the same flags. One of the reforms that needs to be taken up by the Democrats is the probationary period that follows job changes and promotions. It's what has made it possible for these "probationary employees" to be terminated without cause, regardless of their overall tenure.
No argument from me. Still no sign of a voice for the Democratic Party. Still shitty fund-raising numbers. No plan for 2026 or 2028 in sight. Just in-fighting, bickering and a base that is getting very restless about the lack on inaction. If we had a dollar for 'one of the things the Demsmneed to take up/should have taken up', we'd be as wealthy as Musk.
A majority of the Supreme Court signaled Tuesday it is prepared to rule against Colorado’s ban on “conversion therapy” for minors, with several justices indicating they sympathize with a licensed counselor who says the law violates her First Amendment rights.
In one of the most significant cases the high court will address this year, the justices were asked to decide if states may ban the discredited practice, which purports to “convert” gay people to heterosexuality or transgender people to cisgender. The outcome could have sweeping implications: Advocacy groups say roughly half of US states have banned the therapy for minors.
The weird thing is that I agree with the outcome, I just don't agree with how they got there.^ This is horrifying.
And the implications are beyond horrifying. The SC is effectively announcing that sexuality is a lifestyle choice.
There is an unfortunate loophole. "Clergy" can call themselves "family therapists" without any training, license or supervision. Because most are not licensed by the State, the State has no ability to regulate them.I see your point, certainly, but to be honest, I don't think that many parents who force their children into this actually care about licensing or credentials.
I couldn't care less if any adult chooses to engage with quack 'therapists' because of self-hatred.
But minors should not be forced into this. And that is who will suffer because of a bunch of religious jurists.
SCOTUS' repeated extension of the First Amendment Establishment Clause as a "get out of jail free card" for all kinds of damaging behaviors is doing the damage. It's also why these evangelical activist legal organizations keep dragging cases to SCOTUS.^ This is the loophole that I fear will drag so many lgbtq teens into the offices of 'clergy' who see it as a perfect opportunity for grifting and to work out their own self loathing and repression....we have seen it before.
