The most amazing thing about it is that most of what can be seen is a late XXth-century reconstruction, and what actually was excavated and exposed behind the mock façace, is a heap of eroded dirt.View attachment 2331041
What amazes me is that this whole thing has been excavated -- it was entirely buried except for some bricks exposed at the top until someone found a brick with an inscription on it; he took it to an archaeologist who read it as a name and wanted to know where it came from.
They moved one heck of a lot of dirt!

Chogha Zanbil Restoration
The first and second tiers of Chogha Zanbil, a massive ziggurat in Khuzestan Province, have been restored in time for the influx of tourists during the Nowruz holiday season (March 18 – April 2). Restoration work on the site began last September, following months of extensive studies on the site...financialtribune.com
It doesn't specify how many bricks were employed in the restoration.
But it does certify that restoration was finished in 2016..: early 21st century, in common centurial dating.
