Post something just for the heck of it

But what I realized in my sadness, is that I am not crying about her impending end...I am weeping because she is the last direct living link to so many times and places and people
we can never re-visit or even really recapture without first person memories of them...
RB, when I drove Grandmother to her younger sister's funeral in 1982, she was quietly sad. It was a six-hour drive, so we had lots of time to talk.

Grandmother's sister was ten years her junior, but the last member of her immediate family with whom she was close.

As we drove, she told me it felt like she was alone (had been widowed for more than dozen years). When I asked her more about it, she replied that no one was left. There was no one left from home, no one who knew how it was. Grandmother had a very nice upbringing, not wealthy, not poor, but very much loved.

It was clear she felt like that family truly knew her as no one else fully could. Her identity was invested in that knowing.

Grandmother lived another two decades after that, and I watched her become less as age took away one thing after another, yet she lived a full live, and knew many joys in her nine decades. We take it all.

It was a profound statement then. It is a profound statement now.

Meanwhile, in America, we just used enough money to end homelessness and food insecurity for 95% of Americans and built a concentration camp.

I kid you not: while making the above post, I wanted a picture of the new camps in florida so I googled "Alligator Alcatraz". When I pressed enter I saw that google added the word "merch" to my search and gave me this:

That's it. I'm gonna become a terrorist.
