Your reference to E. M. Forster triggers a delightful memory of "Maurice" brought to the silver screen through the genius of Ismail Merchant and James Ivory. I suspect that Forster was much more representative of the repressed English "queer" of the Edwardian era when his observation might well be considered accurate...today...the English, and the British in general are much more liberated...from my practical experience bedding many...
