Never even heard of this car. What a beaut.

It's truly amazing the cars I saw in childhood. I grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, the headquarters of NATO in North America and the home of the North Atlantic Naval Fleet.

The Navy men loved cars from Europe and seem to have no trouble bypassing import restrictions - especially the Naval Command officers!

I saw cars on the streets of the city others only saw in photographs, like the Facel Vega HK500 Coupe. The 2-door is what the Navy guys wanted.

In the 1970's, Jerry Wiegert wanted a North American built supercar, manufactured to aircraft/aerospace standards, to compete with the best of Europe.
He created Vector Aeromotive Corporation, resulting in the custom built 1989 - 1993 Vector W8.

The Vector W8 packed a 6.0 L twin turbo V8 (625 hp) and a GM 3-speed automatic transmission.

Only ever saw this car in photographs and on television. Only 22 produced, no idea how many survive.

The Mercedes 300 SL comes from a time when Mercedes did not have a USA distribution/dealer network.
Mercedes-Benz buyers had to go to the only authorized importer of M-B cars at the time, Studebaker-Packard Corporation.

All the background arrangements for the German automobile industry were the efforts of Max Hoffman, the father of the German sports car.
Max Hoffman was the inspiration for the Mercedes 300SL and the BMW 507. Both cars are spectacular collectibles!
