President Barack Obama

republican math there, really good

2008
- 2005 (when he was sworn in)

And he's spent two of those three years running for President, so that leaves about a year in the Senate.

that on top of being in the Illinois Senate, teaching constitutional law, and community organizing working with people as opposed to Clinton being sworn in as senator is 2001 then voting for war in Iraq and Iran and being primarily known before the Senate for failing on health care with Cheney-type tactics and telling us that Bill never had sex with Monica, it was just a vast right wing conspiracy

You leave out some parts...(and it's very, very sad--and telling--that you try to resurrect a personal matter between President and Senator Clinton in your criticism, especially given what she went through during that period).

How how one can say Senator Clinton and Obama have similar experience is ridiculous. As an undergrad, she led student strikes and fought for Civil Rights as America was confronting the problem of racism. She was removed from a job one summer during her undergrad career as at a fish processing plant for speaking out against unhealthy conditions at the company. After graduating from on of the best law schools in the country, she could have gone anywhere. She chose to go to work for the relatively low-paying Children's Defense Fund that provided free legal aide to poor children and families. She was appointed chairman of the Board of the National Legal Services Corporation by President Carter when she was just 29 years old. She was appointed by the American Bar Association to chair on committee on the status of women in the profession.

As Arkansas' First Lady, she worked successfully to fund rural health programs that expanded free, quality health care to Arkansas' poorest regions. She fough and successfully attained changes in Arkansas' educational system to provide standards for class size and teacher qualifications and therefore improve the education in Arkansas' public schools.

As America's First Lady, she fought--as we all know--for universal health care coverage. She brought the idea of universal health care to the attention of the American public and had she not at least accomplished the task against difficult odds, we probably wouldn't be talking about it today. Although she wasn't able to achieve universal health care then, she didn't stop working. She helped craft the State Children's Health Insurance Program, which today expands health care coverage to nearly 7 million children in America--the largest expansion since the 1960s. She also successfully fought for legislation to include mammograms and other cancer screenings in Medicare coverage and to expand childhood immunizations.

Also as First Lady, she was instrumental in the passage of the Adoption and Safe Families Act, which ensured that children in adoption and foster home services receive the adequate care and attention they deserve.

She represented America abroad in 82 countries around the world, serving as the face of America and a strong and passionate champion of women's rights and human right's. Her memorable speech at the Women's Conference in Beijing and putting those words into action sent shockwaves throughout the human rights community and helped lead the effort in China toward better gender equality. A close friend of Benazir Bhutto, she worked to improve the democratic participation of women in politics around the world.

When she went to the Senate, she went to work immediately at solving the problems facing the people of New York. She reached across the aisle to expand health care coverage to Army and National Guard forces. She also worked to expand coverage FMLA to cover miitary families. She worked in 2002 to draft comprehensive immigration reform and improve voter security and rights in American elections, mandating a paper trail for all ballots. She was one of the first to raise concerns about the health effects of 9/11 and pushed through legislation to provide aide to victims of the poor air quality on 9/11. She helped bring businesses and high-skill, high-wage jobs to upstate New York. As New York's first Senator to serve on the Armed Services Committee, she has gained the respect of ranking foreign and military experts. She proposed a coprehensive, three-point plan to withdraw our troops from Iraq safely and effectively. She stood up to the Pentagon when they refused to at least begin the process of planning a withdrawal. Senator Clinton sponsored legislation to tie Congressional salary increases to an increase in the minimum wage. She has co-sponsored legislation to allow Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices, over the objections of the drug lobby. This list goes on.

It isn't any wonder that she earned the support of voters in all but 4 of New York's 62 counties.

Now...what is your candidate's curriculum vitae. And see if you can provide it, as I did, without mentioning the other candidate.

And he's spent two of those three years running for President, so that leaves about a year in the Senate.

Unlike Senator Clinton who didn't start running for president until December 14th 2007.

looks you failed there lance, you did mention Senator Obama! (Will you ever call him Senator Obama?)

That "personal matter" was President Clinton sitting in front of a tv camera waving his finger saying "I did not have sex with that woman," then First Lady Clinton affirming that President Clinton was not lying on this matter, calling it a "vast right wing conspiracy" on national tv, followed by the sick truth, an unfair impeachment, and a trial in the US Senate. None of this Lance, none of it, no matter how you spin it, dear friend, is a personal matter.

Quit trying to redo reality.

He got acquited by the Senate and all of a sudden the Illinois born Arkansas firtst ladyt was a Yankees fan and a NY resident. I don't give a damn, she can live where she wants, I supported her with money, and somehow the world fucking world knew that she was running for NY Seantor in 2000 so she could run for president in 2008 (presuming the need for a reelection campaign to show her bona fides) and how you missed the eternal Clinton campaign I don't know, but then you call the impeachment and trial of a president along with their personal falsehoods on tv "a personal matter" and guess what, it is not personal.

Lance I think you are ok but tell Danny I take back my advice on how to welcome you home every night.

Well, that certainly is an impressive resamay....

Didn't her health care plan back then fail miserably? I thought she also took the education system in Arkansas from the 48th, or 49th worst, out of the states, and made it the 50th?

I can tell you with an open heart that if Obama becomes President, I might actually consider going to the states for my holidays again, and bring many many friends.

And I must say this to those who argue that he's too 'inexperianced'

AGE DOES NOT BRING EITHER WISDOM NOR MATURITY!!!

Age does not, but experience does. To many people confuse the two.

If I may: no, no, no.

Experience does not being wisdom.

Hitler had lots of experience at doing what he did.

There are different types of experience and then different people do different things with that experience and it may or more likely may not have anything to do with wisdom

wisdom is not a fixed thing, and it may appear only as one perceives it

experience - what is it and what does one do with it - is something that also depends on the perception of it

Obama has wisdom and maturity and experience I think is best

McCain by your standards is the only choice and I reject that

I have 96 year old friends who are more qualified than McCain by your standards

in fact your standard is how they choose the head of the Mormon Church. Are you a Mormon? I wuld think you would be since you agree with their way of doing things.

I follow the international press and from what I have read Obama would rally hundreds of millions around the world. In China people are amazed that Americans are willing to vote for a person of color and it is changing their perception of America. In Italy there are young people declaring that they wish they were American so that they could vote for Obama. There was an Italian journalist in New Hampshire who declared that Obama was "too good" for America and should be European.

The most startling and positive coverage is in the Middle East where people are dumbfounded by this guy with frankly a middle eastern/african name talked about as President of the US. How can you hate a country that seems to embrace what you are? Its a powerful message to send to these communities.

Right there is a big point in his favor. Maybe a significant number of people will stop and think, instead of reacting with knee-jerk hostility, if the U.S. had a president with a non-European name.

If Obama gets the nomination, McCain will win. He is getting the support of republicans and conservatives because the Republicans are scared of running against Hillary. If you don't believe me, listen to talk radio a little bit. Even though I am a Hillary supporter, I will support Obama if he wins the nomination. Can you say that of a lot of Obama supporters?

A lot of Obama supporters won't support Hillary if she wins -- because they're independents, or Republicans fed up with their choices, or Democrats who won't vote for a woman (yes, there are some who will vote for Obama "he's only half black" over a woman), or Democrats who have gotten tired of the name "Clinton", or just voters who see someone with optimism and hope when they look at Obama but see division and hatred when they look at Hillary.
Hillary isn't attracting anyone but Democrats, who will be loyal Democrats even if she loses.

You can't compare Clintons experience to Obama's give me a break. Even his wife says that he doesn't have the experience, and will make mistakes.

I know, it's sad; Obama has never had the chance to be the wife of a big-name politician.

Whoever becomes elected, I just hope that this country can be united once again. It's scary how divided we are between Republicans and Democrats. Granted they have different ideals, but it's such a hindrance when both parties are too busy wreaking havoc for the other party as opposed to working together for the benefit of Americans!!

I do think that it will be McCain vs. Obama. I feel that if they are running against each other a lot of Independents and possibly Republicans will swing over to the Democratic side. I just don't like the fact when people decide who they are going to vote for based on the party the candidate belongs to or is black or is a woman. How about voting for the person who will be the best fit for the job.

It sounds like your talking about age generating wisdom. That is exactly the OPPOSITE of what I said.

I do agree that it's all up to how the individual interprets their experiences that brings them wisdom. However you need an opportunity to do something before you can benefit from it. Experience is that opportunity.

There is a lot of work to be done -

but it is not too soon to realize that in eleven months our new president will be the change that we have made - January 20, 2009 will be a beautiful day as Bush watches Barack Obama take the oath of office

Jack,
Dude, you're a good guy (excluding your college football opinions). I sure hope you're not setting yourself up for a big letdown on this election thing. You might need a bottle of Jack Daniels and some Zoloft come the Wednesday after the election. You're very confident on a Pres Obama while many of us aren't even sold on him being the nominee. Just look at history, what you're assuming will happen, if it happens, won't be so easy. The Republican machine is the ultimate closer. They know how to close presidential elections. What Hillary dished out in S.C. is nothing compared to the big GOP machine. They've eaten up Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Al Gore, John Kerry and nearly impeached Bill Clinton. They play to win. And their electoral "playground" is very big while the Democrats essentially play in the sandbox.

Despite a campaign donation advantage....
Despite more votes in primaries thus far than the GOP, including in the red states....
Despite the Obama/Hillary debate as the highest rated TV debate in U.S. primary history....
Despite the war and near recession....
All this...and if I was betting the house, I'd put my money on McCain. It should be close and maybe the Dems can sneak a narrow victory, but, dude, you make this sound like money in the bank. Just in case, keep the liquor close by on election night (actually, you can use the liquor win or lose:badgrin:)

^You mean, like what happened in 2000? That really worked out, didn't it...?

I'm still waiting for a list of Obama's accomplishments and qualifications from his followers...

It's not like it will take a long time to compile...

People Ive been saying "President Obama" since he spoke at the DNC in 2004 ! LoL.

Thanks for joining up with me though ! "YES WE CAN !" Go Obama, GO !!! :gogirl:

^ I wasnt even a teenager in 1999/2000 but I knew what Bush was, didnt you?

I was talking about the general voting public, who wanted a President they "could have a beer with." I yes, I did know what Bush was--a weak, inexperienced candidate who was all talk and no action. Oh, wait...

And that inexperienced moron made Iraq with the help of "experienced" people like Hillary

Also, when does being 1st lady make you a political expert? (Seriously Lancelva)

And you like to ignore this, but Bush and Clinton are torn from the same cloth with this Iraq mess. I know Hillary is dodging this but she can't...

We've beat that bullshit over and over again and you know it's that: bullshit. If you would like to debate Obama's position on Iraq, I'd be glad to have it.

Also, when does being 1st lady make you a political expert? (Seriously Lancelva)
There's far more to her carrer than being First Lady. And if you would actually take the time to become familiar with both candidates, you would know that.

Last I looked Senator Clinton's claim to fame is First Lady and Senator from NY - she has NOT been elected President

stay positive Lance

Jack,
