The problem there is one of policing. A rule or law that says men use the mens room and women the women's is enforceable. But, a rule that says some biological men can shower with the women, if their mental state is that the feel like women, but other men cannot, is unenforceable. Who is to know the mental state? If the women report a man lurking in the women's shower, how can the authorities decide?
All over Europe, including airports and train deposit, bathrooms tend to require payment. So if the trans people demand neutral facilities it is not unfair to charge them.

First of all transwomen are not men mentally they are women and further more only transpeople who have transitioned go into these facilities not cismen who dress and act like men. Also there is no real need for gender neutral facilities if you let transwomen use female bathrooms and transmen use male bathrooms. I mean again who would women rather see in the bathroom? Laverne Cox who looks completely like a female and even has a vagina but was born a man or Buck Angel who looks indistinguishable from a man but has a vagina and was born a female. Again transwomen are not men so letting transwomen in does not mean that you must allow cismen in.

These schools and public places already have restrooms, dressing rooms and showers. If trans people demand want something different, they should not expect the the taxpayers to pay for it. The solution is to let those who want special treatment pay for it.

Bathrooms come at a cost: cleaning, maintenance, water, consumables, energy and construction.
If any one group of people should have to pay to cover the cost, everybody (or nobody) should do too.

In particular where people are calling for new toilets for the sake of not tinkling in a cubicle where a transsexual might do the same.

It is clear that not only do you not have the first clue about transgender and intersex humans....you make it clear that you arrogantly refuse to learn about the complexities of this or to even recognize that it exists.

So why do we need the federal government to issue orders and regulations? My objection all along has been to Obama and the beaurcracy's arrogating that power to themselves. You democrats just do not understand the concept af a government without totalitarian power.

Ask yourself why the GOP and bible belt conservatives decided that bathroom laws were needed.

You keep trying to load this on the President...but the simple fact is that it is the state legislatures that are issuing orders and regulations.

If North Carolina hadn't created bathroom laws...no response from the federal government would have been needed. Powerful institutions like the University of North Carolina and the cities that wanted to pass their own local bylaws could have happily allowed transgender people the freedom of using the bathroom that best fit their gender identity. It was only because the state wanted to crush the ability of the local governments and organizations to permit this that the entire court case was set in motion.

It is this consistent lack of awareness about all of this that baffles me. It is like you have this most incredible tunnel vision...or once again....a conscious refusal to accept the basic facts of the case.

I don't agree with paying for bathroom use when no one else has to either, let alone to pay for the dubous privilege in a half-assed 'separate-but-equal' corner. That's all Ben's idea, from what I can tell.

Actually it is mot special treatment it is very basic treatment and there is no problem in letting trans people use the facilities of their gender identities.

You do realize that in the ancient world in societies that recognized third genders they allowed trans men and women in the gender of their identities.
