On Topic Discussion Pride and prejudice? Race tinges LGBT celebrations

Or you can just commandeer a group that has already done the grunt work and demand the same rights that they worked so hard for.

i cannot fathom why people need to be sold on the idea that a clear trend of state-sanctioned murder is a problem. who the fuck needs a powerpoint presentation to convince them that an entire group of people is deserving of life or at least justice?

Ah. Unfortunately, people are fucking dim. There isn't a one with no preconceived notions anywhere. They're stupider in groups but they're not too bright on their lonesome, either, are people. Goes for everybody; some people may have a few less ignorant spots than others but it can all stand a good weeding out on a regular basis.

"Down there,” he said, “are people who will follow any dragon, worship any god, ignore any iniquity. All out of a kind of humdrum, everyday badness. Not the really high, creative loathesomeness of the great sinners, but a sort of mass-produced darkness of the soul. Sin, you might say, without a trace of originality. They accept evil not because they say yes, but because they don’t say no.”

Contrarywise -

"And it all meant this: that there are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that cannot easily be duplicated by a normal, kindly family man who just comes in to work every day and has a job to do. "

-Terry Pratchett

Gosh, lots, in my view. Have you ever noticed how people are?

People suffer terribly from profound ignorance and malicious tendencies.

I mean, look around^.

Rights and justice won't enact themselves just because they are the true and good things to do; we have to labor for them, and engage in all the tedium of elaborating even the simplest moral statements.

it's starting to sound more like people are willingly and maliciously ignoring the reasons behind the BLM cause for no other reason than it doesn't pose a threat to them, ergo any mention of it anywhere whether it's Pride or the news or social media, is little more than an inconvenience and annoyance.

It's both often willing and malicious but usually unknown past the subconscious. It's not like the subconscious doesn't float to the top, tho, particularly in times of personal and political upheaval. At least halfway it seems to be based on a sort of heavily-diseased sense of self preservation. "If I don't look it doesn't happen; if I do look and it happens there must be 'two sides to every story'; otherwise, how will I live with myself knowing I was a Fuck who expects equity in the face of its opposite for others?"

That's not to say profound ignorance isn't involved. At some point, however, ignorance (if one's been paying attention to life's events) must be gripped with both hands and an open mouth if people want to keep it. Ignorance also has a bad habit of biting the hand that feeds it, shitting on the fingers & then flapping madly away. Ignorance takes work. Usually at the most inopportune time for such reflections does a more honest course of thought arise.

I think it takes more work than education of oneself, but I suspect I'm damn near alone in that belief.

Well, consider the example I posed above concerning climate science.

It's a weird, counter-intuitive facet of human nature that we willingly ignore even plain empirical information if it doesn't suit our prejudices. Climate change is a real challenge that every organism will have to negotiate as a matter of fact; yet people don't care, because the truth of the matter doesn't somehow touch them personally.

In spite of that disconnect, there are ways to provoke a positive response from people on issues that feel distant to them. I think the same is true of people who react dully, or meanly to the issues BLM raises.

I discovered in my arguments with both the right and left some years back on the Death Penalty...people do NOT want to see who they are..or what they have become....

For example..with new DNA advancements they found

https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/innocence-list-those-freed-death-row

Look how many people were on Death Row for crimes they didn't commit..and I dare you to figure out how many were Black Men...and then I ask you....how many were executed...in ALL OF OUR NAMES?

My point...if this doesn't bother you...you are part of the problem. If you don't know you are part of the problem..you are part of AN EVEN BIGGER PROBLEM.....

...and it is the same for people of color in the LGBT community. Sorry...but alot of white LGBT freely and openly brag about and flaunt and celebrate their privilege....though to be fair...they will accept people of color is they zombify themselves and look and act like a Gay Stepford Wife.... and they also dislike fat or "ugly" (subjective of course)...and old people as well..and gender/role bias is rampant with this group of "A" listers...so they are equal opportunity assholes....gotta give them that....

...and when all is said and done...if it doesn't bother you or you can't see it...or even listen to the people who have been trying to educate you and tell you what they are experiencing..then you are part of the problem.

Through my eyes.....bottom line..if any person is treated differently under the law because of the color of their skin...or their gender...or the sexual preference...or their race...it bothers me...

Why?...because I have a conscience. If you aren't bothered by the atrocities that happen daily.....then I think you should figure out what happened to yours.

I say, make whatever you want of Pride except how downtrodden the white straights are.

Why can't black people just be nice and polite to everyone - that'll stop this shit immediately. Oh wait, they still fucking shot Philando and countless others. People are pissed, yes they are coming to our events and telling us all they are pissed. We need to bloody hear it.

The sooner we all listen and fucking stop this shit, the sooner you can go back to waving at a policewoman on a bike. But for now, screw having cops around.

say it again!

Again you don't gain allies by pissing them off first.

we are past the point of being reasonable and polite, people are being murdered and the murderers are getting away with it, if you were even .00000015% of a decent human being then it shouldn't take someone crashing your parade to get you talking about this in the first place. why aren't you equally outraged that innocent people are being murdered and the killers are getting away with it? did somebody fuck you so hard that your conscience went flying out of your mouth? well holla at me if/when you find it because all i'm hearing is

our party > the lives of black americans

[Quoted Post: Removed]

BLM has nothing to do with slavery and not once have i heard anyone equate the two (until now). you're obfuscating the message because in your trashy, racist, uneducated mind it's just more black people crying for free foodstamps and government housing.

honestly you're the one person we DON'T want to join the movement. i'm so glad you're on the other side i might throw a fucking parade my damn self. :gogirl:

Here's just one example...

Confirmed: In 60% Black New Orleans, Almost 99% of Homicides and Nonfatal Shootings Committed by Blacks

How is commandeering Pride events going to fix it? This is the source of the problem, don't you think?

are those statistics reflective of black Americans as a whole? are they consistent or did you conveniently find the city with a deeply troubled history of violence and try to coyly pretend that it's indicative of black america as a whole?

you're trolling, but [Text: Removed] you're not very good at it.

^^^Mikey reminds me of people who will watch Jerry Springer and assume that the Black Guests represent Black People but they NEVER assume that the White Guests represent White People.....

Hmmmmm....

I know because I have challenged a couple bigots on this very thing....

New Orleans never used to have a deeply troubled history of violence. Neither did Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles or, just to make things easier...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jul/21/family-secret-what-the-left-wont-tell-you-about-bl/

Again, if you want Black Lives to matter, they have to matter to blacks too, and hijacking other communities' celebrations for their achievements is not going to help.

you know what's funny? those places you named, chicago, detroit, LA, they ALL share a commonality-- a strong history of severe systemic racism, economic instability and corruption.

Melanie, you're not talking to one of these idiot teenage rappers i've forgotten more of my people's history than you've ever known. [Text: Removed] i'm your worst enemy, a black man with knowledge. ;)
