Pride Festivals 2025

So today was Salem's large pride. It was huge compared to other years. I got there before opening and left at closing. Even though I was on my mobility scooter for most of it I am exhausted. I took about 1,900 pictures in 7 hours.

Nice.
I bring my camera with me when I go, but must say I take nowhere near that many videos and/or videos. lol.
Generally I only spend a few hours there, 7 would be too much for this old man (especially in the heat of summer).

Usually I ride around on my scooter taking pictures, but this year I camped out at the stage taking pictures of the performers. I have no idea what I am doing so I have my camera set for continuous shooting. I figure if I take a lot of pictures maybe one or two will be good.

I slept 18 hours once I got home. I am still sore from being out all day.

I will generally take extra photos or video, but don't have my camera set for continuous shooting. lol
In Denver normally I'll walk around the festival grounds then sit & watch one of the stages, then get up & walk around some more, then go sit at a different stage. (usually done a couple times alternating between the 2 main ones.)
This year I did some but spent the most time parking myself near the DJ stage... there was a nice little shady spot under some trees there :)

The smaller events ofcourse only have one stage, so I'll do some walking around & then sit there & watch.

Back in past years (before I got laid off) I would always put in a time-off request for the day after pride (if the pride was on a Sunday) just to have a day to rest up...

Next Saturday is a major Pride festival in Las Vegas! And I'm going!

I went to a small one last weekend, 2nd time they've had one in that town(and 2nd one I've went to there)).
Walk around the festival grounds a couple times(a small area), & sat for a bit by one of the stages. Took some pic's(not many) & a few videos.
It started raining while I was there (knew i'd end up getting rained on as I'd been checking radar on the weather app I use) .
People & vendors started leaving at that point, I hung out for a bit under a tree(was mostly light rain & no thunder) & left around the time the little rainshower was moving out (had a family thing that evening or I mighta stayed a bit longer)

-------------
So that makes it going to 4 different pride festivals this year...the most I've done :)

I did Vegas pride once in 2015, my last trip to Vegas. It was hot as hell. They were smart to move it back a month.

Bet that one would be pretty cool!
But they charge for it? No thanks.

That works both ways. Sure, we all love the freebies. But charging for the event gives the organizers more control over the environment. When you have a wide-open event free to the public, you risk the possibility of being picketed by homophobic religious organizations. When the Pridefest organizers charge, they can act as gatekeepers to keep the troublemakers out, ensuring that they have a safe and fun event.

Yep that is true..
At the Denver one, they have a fence around the whole thing & gates at certain points where you have to enter/exit .. if you bring in any type of bag they have to see inside before you enter, also will sometimes do a pat-down... but in those cases they're mainly checking for weapons. Though also works against other things to having gatekeepers there.
(at one time there were no fences or checks, you could just come & go from any direction...but times have changed.)

I believe they also pay atleast some of the artists.

The various smaller prides it varies, some have an entry point (though in reality you could just duck under the rope around the event-area). None check you like Denver, but they're much smaller.

It's costing me $12 and change. For up to 7 hours of entertainment that's a good deal. I believe artists should be paid, especially in this post-indusyrial time. Arts jobs are real jobs.
Atleast its reasonable :)

I did pay for going to a pride festival once (the Aurora one) .. entry was technically free, but they charged $10 for parking (and where it was you really just had to drive & park). Really not bad I guess, plus it was kinda cool being on the beach of a lake. Then they raised it to $20 which was too much to me so I quit going. .lol.
They moved it to a different location this year entry was free, there were probably paid-parking garages/lots around the area, but I took the train & bus to not have to deal with traffic & parking.

Las Vegas's Pride festival was fun! It was at a new venue, the Desert Breeze Events Center on the west side of town. The crowd was good but the large space felt uncrowded.

There were lots of giveaways, businesses, groups.
The entertainment was varied and good overall (an occasional misfire). My favorite was Chase Brown, a country singer (but not only country) who's having a 3-year run Fridays at Notoriety Live in Vegas.
