Lgbt pride months are upon us, at least where I'm livin'. One of the newspapers here said Megan Mullally is a'coming to sing & chatter at one of ours so I'm actually going to go this year. I'm a fan, albeit a bit of a lazy one. I don't expect much from the retail or 'empowering speech' section, they kind've suck at representation in that area beyond the L and G - But Megan Mullally! Is anyone else doing something for the festivities? Probably go out to dinner afterwards, preferably far, far away from the festival's generally overpriced comestibles.
 
Lots of activities all around the Seattle area and many events are spontaneous - it pays to keep your schedule open around here.

Mmhm. An issue with ours is apparently the health conference was moved to (I think) September this year instead of the usual June. Kinda fucks things up schedule-wise, I'm used to June, but it does give a bit of'extra' time to go to other things instead of having the health conference at the same time as the fun shit. Always thought that was a bit....not sure of the word. Sneaky and assumptive, maybe, to have the only health conference at the same time as the actual festivities. Interesting way to encourage a group of people not to show.
 
June and July are scheduled heavy with events from music and food gatherings to health and social justice conferences. Many times informal groups will march through the city causing traffic woes at the worst moments.

Seattle police has worked to improve public relations so arrests and disturbances were way down last year. I've often heard that European cops are friendlier than cops in the USA. I hope that's true.

I've been in a few marches, all scheduled. The point is to make notice, and you can't do that if people are ignoring you. Hard to ignore someone blocking your path. I heard the same thing about European cops, I'd think the friendliness likely has something to do with the weapon laws there, among other social differences.
 
If I have the money I am suppose to go to Portland Pride with my home care worker. She has never been, but I have to pay for everything. We want to make a day of it.

That sounds like a lot of fun! I haven't made a day of anything in quite a while. I should probably get K on the home health aid schedule, pretty sure I qualify for it and he does the job already, and rather well at that, usually takes me ages to train someone in the differences, he might as well earn a few bucks doing the work. Tho he could work on his braille typing, a few of my spices have funky labels.
 
Last year Seattle hosted the largest Pride Parade in the city's history. The organizers of the parade held a rally a few days later at Seattle City Hall to protest the growing homeless population that's affecting areas all around the city.

Pride activities seem to be drawing people with a variety of concerns out in the public and being visible.

My home care worker is great. We get along really well. She is bi and in a relationship with a woman so it is not like my last home care worker that was a bit weird about it.
 
Me and thousands of others are boycotting Toronto Pride this year because the very supportive police were banned from participating by the BLM gang. There is a very informal BBQ put on by my Bi guys that we'll attend.

That's excellent news! Aids can be difficult to 'click' with socially, it's really nice to find a fit. Scheduling assistance can be a hassle though, but eh. It is what it is at that point.

K did recently find Pride stuff at Target; I was unawares they had merchandise, I don't go into Target often. Got an excited phone call from K at the store a week or so ago; I now own a grey hoodie with a rainbow mane and a unicorn horn on the hood. Should go great with my resting bitch face. Just picture Wilson Fisk in the hoodie and you've nailed it.
 
Every time we drive into our village to the office, it is a Pride festival.
 
The last few years, Denver PrideFest was held the same weekend as Denver Comic Con...which was held the same weekend as the Westword Music Showcase (a large one-day music festival)...which was the same weekend as Father's Day. As such, I did very little for Pride other than perhaps watch the parade. Hell, last year, I couldn't even watch the parade, as they scheduled me to work Comic Con that same morning.

This year, FINALLY, they've sorted their shit out. Denver PrideFest is June 17-18 (Father's Day weekend), Westword Music Showcase is June 24th, and Denver Comic Con is June 30-July 2. So I finally can go to all three if'n I want.

That said, the headliners are Jennifer Holliday and Peppermint. I can't say as I'm overly gung-ho about them. I'll probably go and mingle anyway, though.

BLM disrupted the parade two years ago, but I for one didn't mind.

I don't know if I am or not yet. I'm not too keen on Pridefest, but not out and out opposed. In Albuquerque, it was a lot like gay bars, just irrelevant.

However, moving to northern Alabama, I'd like to see what events are planned and attend around my relocation and work. With Trump in office and the whole civil rights (including gay rights) being debated, I think it important to do extra to show we mean what we mean.

I'm en route now, but I'll check back in after I get situated in the new town and learn my options.
 
I've went to the Pridefest down in Denver the last 6 years in a row. (not sure if I'll make it 7 this year, truly undecided)
I've also went to the Pridefest up in Boulder a few times.

My friend and I were at the Target yesterday, and we were pleasantly surprised that they had not only gay pride merchandise, but also bi and trans pride. And the products were displayed right at the entrance. Flagstaff is a pretty progressive town, but I still didn't expect to find that kind of stuff at Target, of all places.

Did that meeting produce any proposals that could be put into action?

The homeless in our cities take pride in their homelessness and pitch their tents and mattresses in the best positions in the CBD.

I read they are doing a big push in all of their stores for Pride merch..
