Prince Harry not going to Iraq because apparently war is dangerous

I agree it's not great for the monarchy as an institution if the spare for the heir gets whacked, but it must be hard to explain to the families of ordinary Brits whose kids are dying over there that their kids live are not all that precious.

Certainly, as tragic as it would be for Harry to be killed, his life is not any more precious than anyone else who is serving over there. That being said, it was insanely ridiculous to even consider sending him over there. He's third in line to the throne; his being killed would have little impact on the royal succession.

But if a British prince were to be capture by Iraqi insurgents? We all remember the incident where Iran detained a group of British sailors. Harry as a POW would be a billion times worse. Her Majesty's government would be caught in an impossible choice between rolling over for terrorists, or allowing a member of the royal family to remain a prisoner.

Nope. This was a stupid idea from the word go, and Harry's just going to have to suck it up and accept it.

they're shouldn't any princes anymore

but what do i know i'm just a guy from the colony.

I'm just glad the boy didn't go in the first place! He's too damn cute to get involved with all that shit. :)

this boy is too damn cute to get involved in all that shit.

Pte Kevin Thompson, aged 21, from the Royal Logistic Corps, died on 6 May from injuries sustained when the convoy in which he was travelling was hit by an improvised bomb.
After the attack on 3 May, he was treated at the field hospital in Basra Air Station before being flown back to Britain, where he died

any death is one to meany, and harry has tp be as much treated normally. but if he goes it is just to dangerous for the people atond hiim. killing him or kidnapping wouldbe the main price

actually, he got death threats, thats why.

its not like he's not going over ther cuz theres bombs and stuff.

its cuz of the death threats.

and he even said he's very upset and wanted to go over, but they wont let him.

no, im saying, he recieved PERSONAL death threats.

like, litterally saying they would find him and murder him.

Thick too aren't we....

They Head up the State for starters... and they do a much better job at it than your Head of State does.

Secondly, they bring BILLIONS of Pounds into the UK in tourist revenue... again, much more than your Head Of State does.

Historically, they've led the Armed Forces into battle... thats right... they've been the first ones to raise their weapons and fire shots in anger in war - again... much more than your Head of State does.

The list goes on... you may not like them, but don't sit there and say they do nothing... they do far more than you could fathom.

Joeslifeyork; Thank you for defending OUR Royal family. For the Queen is also our Canadian Head of State. And as such they are a source of pride, and love to hundreds and hundreds of thousand s of individuals in the former Commonwealth. Your comments are dead on and need nothing further from such as I. Wish my southern neighbours felt as much for their Head of States (at the moment), although they have, cherished quite a few past Presidents. I am a strong monarchist so there.

Isn't it a rather moot point?
With the UK already cutting back troop strength and Blair on his way out, Britains involvement in Iraq is dwindling.
The US/UK aren't the only forces in Iraq with intelligence sources. The insurgents seem to have info on troop movements etc and attack accordingly.
The capture or killing of Prince Harry would be quite a coup for the insurgents and/or al Qaeda. His presence would put his comrades at much greater risk by making them a more strategic target.
Additionally our enemies are constantly trying to recruit supporters and the capture or death of Harry might very well inspire or intimidate others to join our them.

What they havent said is where he will be going- Afghanistan would be an option if the press would leave him alone

It wouldn't be as bad if they stick to their own kingdom like the monarchs of Spain, Denmark, Sweden, etc. do. Instead they bury their heads in Imperialism by holding on to power in lands that don't belong to them (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, to name a few).

Oh by th way, Her Majesty the Queen holds no power in Canada. We are still under the British law system and other institutions but not the British rule. There is an exception of course and that is the province of Quebec who follow the Napoleonic code in many things. Some in Quebec also follow fools who want to separate from the rest of the country. Class dismissed.

I have been a staunch supporter of Harry going into Iraq. I find it admirable that he wanted to serve alongside his fellow Englishmen. A trait in royalty long missed.

However, the last couple of weeks in Iraq has changed my mind. It's getting worse. Now, three of our U.S. soldiers are kidnapped and we can't find them anywhere. They are devious down there and I'm sure, if they tried very hard enough, they would kidnap or kill Harry too.

I doubt very much that the Iraqi insurgents would just shoot Harry and be done with it. More likely they are going to capture and do god know what to him and then post it on the net. This will be a HUGE demoralising blow to our already low morale.

Maybe Paris Hilton might go "cause it's so HOT. Oh, that's the climate not the clientele. Anyway, Harry would cause more danger to his squad from a P.R. standpoint. They didn't attack a "mom & pop" grocery, but the World Trade Center in New York, after all. I do believe he'ld like to go "cause he train w/ them & one does view one's self as part of the unit.

But from the duties that you've mentioned joe, she sounds like a glamorous figurehead.

Oh and France destroyed their own monarchy but look at their thriving tourist industry...

Don't you mean: Much more than your current Head of State does?
Remeber we change our current Head of State here every 4 to 8 years depending.

I wouldn't want to fight beside him. Might as well hang a bullseye around your neck.
