It's been known for more than five years that Prince is a Jehovah's Witness who goes door-to-door trying to win converts to the austere faith, as mentioned in this week's New Yorker. Less appreciated: the musician's growing distance from the liberal artistic values that pervade show business, despite his move to Los Angeles seven years ago. As Claire Hoffman writes, Prince has a budding relationship with Christian conservative media mogul Philip Anschutz, of Denver, and seems to be opposed to gay marriage and adoption. These can' be popular views among Prince's fellow California-based rockers:

When asked about his perspective on social issues—gay marriage, abortion—Prince tapped his Bible and said, “God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, ‘Enough.’ ”

If Prince wants to get attention for his views, airing them amid nationwide demonstrations against the passage of a California anti-gay-marriage initiative will probably do the trick. What that does for the "celibate" musician's sales and popularity is another matter.

don't hate because he's straight and confused

hate him for being a bigot.

like it's 1999

I wonder if he put on his ass-less pants and platform stiletto heels for the interview. He's pretty judgemental for a crossdresser.

no he isnt, he was misquoted..as confirmed by his publicist..

and even if he was, i dont care, i still love his music!! hes the one and only 'true" artist..

Sub par? Are frickin' kidding me? I assume you never heard his masterpiece of an album "Sign o' the Times" or you wouldn't make a statement like that. Arguably one of the best if not the best albums to ever come out of the 80s.

I shall youtube it. But i heard some of his other songs, they were meh.

"sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever"

hypocrite much?

oh is Prince a homo or str8?

he looks abit girly tho, actually he looks quite girly.

^ ok, even if he was misquoted, i still think his music is sub par.

i dont think any of his music is sub-par, apart from maybe his debut album "For You" 1999, Purple Rain, Dirty Mind, Sign O' The Times, Lovesexy, Around The World In A Day & Diamonds & Pearls are all masterpieces in my book, Even some of his more recent work, such as, Chaos & Disorder, Love Symbol, Gold Experience, 3121, Musicology, & Planet Earth i think are fantastic albums!

im a hardcore Prince fan, so my opinion is biased..

if you want to hear some really great Prince songs, dig a little deeper into his catalog, thats where you'll find the real gems..

i only like afew of his songs.

the best one is "when doves cry" the rest is ok but u CAN'T just listen to 1 artist.

For the record, I love Prince. I've seen him in concert a couple of times and I love his early music. This news has hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm disappointed to say the least. Truthfully I'm not fond of his new sound so.... Meh!

There's nothing scarier than a reformed whore.

Face it. His music career is pretty much over and he needs buzz.

When you ask anyone to name their five favorite Prince albums, they never name anything after 1992. Because the last thing he did worth buying was Diamonds and Pearls and even that was marginally passable.

That being said... he insists that he's not homophobic and that he pointed to the bible and said "that tells me not to judge."

Which to me is a bit of a cop out, considering he never had any problem exploiting lesbian chic before Madonna ever met Sandra Bernhardt.

I assume you mean Lisa and Wendy with the Lesbian chic remark, but that was before he became a witness, so chances are he wasn't homophobic then.

Oh please, he was a Jimi Hendrix wannabe gone wrong.

Prince believing that I should not be allowed to marry my man or adopt children, carries as much weight with me as one who thinks I should...NONE. If he is homophobic, I suspect he was that way long before the Jehovah's Witnesses rang his door bell.

*sighs*

Denial is such a powerful self-defense mechanism...
