Pubic Hair: to shave or not to...

I shaved my nuts one time, but not my ding dong. It gets itchy when the hair starts growing back. Pubic hair is very sexy and shouldn't be shaved off.

Showering at my favorite health club with the straightest of straight men, most all men trim or shave anymore. You used to be able to tell if someone was inclined to our persusion, however, all the hot guys trim and shave anymore so you can't begin to tell who might be playing on our team and who isn't. I don't think your doctor could possibly know anymore as it seems like everyone is doing it. I guess it has become part of better grooming anymore. There are some really hot straight guys out there with trimmed pubes and shaved balls. Many women are actually doing it for their husbands. It turns both parties on to do it. You would really love to tell them gay guys have been doing this long before straight guys found out how great it was. Ah, but then we don't want to reveal all our secrets now, do we. I am an avid daily gym user. Shaving for young men all over one's body, including the pubic area, is totally mainstream and in no way forecasts sexuality. Women love it and encourage it. Men do it openly in front of each other in college showers and such. I am older and come from a generation that viewed shaving as effeminate. No more. In fact, young men view body hair as gross, and a lack of grooming to be a negative thing. To my knowledge, their no longer exists any area of body grooming which is predictive of sexuality.

FWIW, it's usually a good idea for your doctor to know you sexual orientation. Good doctors will be able to use that information to tailor your care a bit better. They can tell you about recommended preventative care (e.g., hep a and b vaccine is recommended for men who have sex with men) and be on the lookout for health issues more common to gay men. If you're not comfortable with your doctor knowing such things, you really need to find a new doctor.

Having been there and done that I'd say a trim and shave the balls. GREAT feeling. Being completely shaved is a weird feeling. I can't think of a reason why I shaved everything twice but know it's not for me. The looks......the guys are right. You'll look like a boy. As for shaving the balls, now that's a great feeling (when they rub against the pants/underwear. )

What ever you choose remember they will grow back. It will be itchy for a while but the hair will come back

Do college men actually shave openely in front of each other in the showers? The reason I ask is because it sounds interesting.

I trim my pubes, but I have never shaved my balls. Part of that is there is no one currently licking them, so there is no point. When I do get involved though, I would shave them, or do a mutual shave or something, but only on the nuts. I don't want to look like a child.

I'm 38 but I have a lot of younger friends who are in their early 20's. And I had this conversation with one of them the other day.

When I was a kid, I couldn't wait to hit puberty to get my pubes. It was the first sign of becoming a "young man" so to speak. And when I got them at about age 11 or so, I was always showing them off to the boys that didn't have any yet. Mean, I know!

But what I learned from talking to my younger friend (as well as from the 'net) is that anymore, guys start shaving them off at the very first sign of one. For teens / adolescents now, having pubes is "nasty" instead of something to be "proud of" like it was when I was a kid. In fact, my friend even told me that he was completely shaven and has been for years...no body hair anywhere. And he is only 20 And I"m just the opposite...I'm hairy as hell.

Now, everyone is saying shaving is normal. Well, I guess that is a matter of opinion. For me it is not. And , according to some "professionals", it is not. I'll explain that one. I was watching one of the shows on Discovery...I think it was "New Detectives" or "FBI Files". And somehow a hair linked the suspect to the case. And the detectives could determine from where on the body the hair came from by the ends of it. They determined that the hair was from another part of the suspects body because, and I quote "pubic hair is NOT NORMALLY shaven or cut."

SO I guess it all depends on what everyone considers "normal".

These days, I'd say that trimming, shaving and letting it grow out are well within the realm of normal. Frankly, I'm just happy we all have options on this front.

Personally I'm into the shaved or closely-trimmed look, on both men and women - not because it makes these folks look young when unclothed, but strictly for the sake of access. I'm not much into winding up with little pubic hairs on my tongue all the time, you know? You don't have to worry about that at all when someone is shaved down below. (This is especially true when it comes to women, given the closer-in logistics of cunnilingus.)

Also, in the summertime things can get a bit hot down there, especially during exercise. So it's nice to pare down one's forest to keep things cool - or at least give yourself the sense of keeping cool, whether it actually helps or not. I have not done any thorough scientific studies on the matter. (Still looking for a lab assistant, you know.)

I admit, I felt a bit funny about shaving/trimming at first, but now I do it about once a month. Thankfully I don't seem to have much of a problem with itchiness!
