On-Topic Putin: Cleanse Russia of Homoxexuality

I don't. Waste of money. To waste money in a country, where people live in poverty is a crime,

He said several times that this law is not against sex. On TV yesterday he said that some countries have ban for gay sex, but not ours.

One lawyer and MP leader also said that sex ban will be against international laws and so it's impossible.

It's not sex ban, but propaganda ban. Silly. Awful. But you can't help.

Yes he did say on ABC news that the law isn't against homosexual sex---if you say that is the case, I don't know--and he said unlike some states in the USA where gay sex is illegal. This whole propaganda thing is something else as he seems to be the expert on propaganda.:p

and Russian Bottom just come here it could take years for your country to come around--just avoid the red states here where gay is still a crime.

He mentioned Texas. I guess there was sodomy laws prior to 2003. But not now.

This shows how ignorant Putin and the Orthodox Church and the Russian peasants still must be if they believe that homosexuality needs to be 'cleansed' from society in order to push the birthrate up.

How stupid are people if they they think that somehow...if homosexuality is allowed and tolerated...that it will ever be the 'go to' option for heterosexauls.

Do all of these people only have an elementary school education? Has no one in Russia realized that homosexuality is not a choice and that it only maybe is the natural order for about 10% of the population?

What the Fuck?

While Texas don't have sodomy laws now, it has a decade ago. And Australia has such law before 1988. For democratic and open countries, it looks rather strange.

So what do you want from a country that was isolated?

Elementary school education? Why do you think that people can't have such views after the university?
In the USSR? They don't learn anything about us. Until late eighties. Even physicians. Or learn old theories.

After? Well, some learn. Not all are so ignorant. But it's not so fast.

I am sure we could find people with similar views and college degrees over here with no great difficulty.

Sexual problems became open to a discussion in the late eighties here. Soon after that people got other problems: how to buy food. To earn money.
Rareboy forgot it. I don't. Now we have food and money to buy it. :)

Vitamin
Thanks.

Make no mistake, when the games are over,it will be open season on gays and lesbians in Russia.

To be fair I think Poland also went through this kind of stupidity under recent Presidents. I think we need to watch them like a hawk but surely there are limits to the influence of the clergy.

I suspect it's just as much Putin as it is the clergy. Having a scapegoat for the bad economy is a convenience.

And that being gay doesn't mean being sterile....

Something less than a majority of Russians are Orthodox, and less than a majority of those go to church more than once a year. I would guess that the clergy can sway something on the order of 15% of the population (or less).

Right. Well that will be it then. Putin is playing the same game as Harper in Canada.

It is much easier to play to a strategic minority that can put you back into power than to develop broadly supported policies for the good of the whole country, and recognised as such by the electorate. For example, Harper's electoral goal is not 70% or 60% or even 50%. He wants just a solid 40% popular approval, spread out just thinly enough to deliver him a majority in the House of Commons. In ridings he is bound to lose, he would rather lose by as much as possible with no effort made to stem the tide - that would take effort away from the marginal ridings he depends on to deliver the prize.

If the equivalence holds, 15% is not a tiny corner of the Russian electorate; it is probably a full third of the only electorate that matters to Putin; the one that actually votes for him.

The one that can be counted on to vote -- and to turn out for demonstrations.

Yes. Joe the Plumber.
We have such people here.
Please be careful when you try to help us.
They can use it against us.

I have watched every Olympics on TV summer and winter I will not watch them and I will never drink coke again they refused to say a word and are the biggest sponsor. Having been to Russia I do not understand wanting to look good to the church less than 2% in Russia have even seen the inside of the church it is for tourists.

He don't worry about this. Rating is the only thing he worries.
But people may have some kind of worries. Some say such silly things: "In Europe they are tolerant to gays, so Muslims will occupy Europe". We have Muslims too.

They don't know Patrick Joseph Buchanan. But they use the same arguments.

Russian parliamentarians have been meeting with prominent members of the American religious right, including Brian Brown whom has been trying to do so stealthfuly. How much effect has he been having? We don't know, but the Duma is aware of the arguments prevalent among American religious conservatives.

^ I personally suspect that Putin's anti-gay "propaganda" laws are directly inspired by GWB's campaign against gay rights in America.

Bush very successfully used anti-gay bigotry to promote himself and his party. The hatred helped him to win re-election and get anti-gay laws passed throughout most of the USA. Bush stirred up political enthusiasm for himself and his party by teaching Americans that it was moral and patriotic to hate gay people.

I am sure this lesson is not lost on Putin.

I think it is a case of convergent evolution. This is what right wing parties and right wing people do - fear and hate mongering about unpopular minorities, and no gays are not the only targets. Historically in Eastern Europe it has been the Jews, Roma, and foreigners. That being said, it does seem as though real progress was being made until just the last few years.

I say elementary school education because the more educated people are, the less religious they tend to be or at least, the less they beleive in a rigid patriarchal authority.

It is clear that the base of Russian voters is the same as in the southern US. Poorly educated people who swallow what the church tells them.
