I don't understand why the writer of this article believes our current government is anti Quebec. I believe they are just standing up to Quebec and basically saying either you're in or you're out but we're not about to buy your votes as previous governments have attempted to do. If you want to talk about putting one part of the country against the other how about the late (RIP) Jack Layton sticking it to Alberta in his campaign speeches in Quebec. He knew he didn't have a chance in hell of winning votes in our province and he smelled opportunity in Quebec and succeeded. His party had better deliver or the separatists will rise again

King George V1s 1939 Christmas speech to The Empire with particular attention drawn to the poem The Gate of the Year appropriate for this very day.

Interesting article. We need to know more about Canada.
Any chance that Quebec will become a separate nation?

If the Quebec government seriously works on education, infrastructure, public spending and other areas that need improvement, not just focusing on the language laws, they could make a solid case.

But until/if I move there, je n'y suis pour rien.

Quebec cannot make it on it's own and thankfully the separatist movement is all but dead

My Canada includes Quebec

Erh, there is nothing in that thread that faulted Americans for not talking about international politics. Rather, it is too much of it and in all the wrong places.

^^The Hot Topics Forum has become sort of a surrogate CE&P and the Mods need to get the situation under control.

Isn't that interesting though. I've scanned the last 15 or so pages for political threads in HT over the last month and see almost none.

Even Jayqueer has managed to restrain himself.

Which threads are of concern over there?

I'm afraid the political commentary in HT tends to be within the thread, not in the title. Sometimes I feel that the thread has been hijacked. Perhaps, too, I am over sensitive on that point; obviously Ram is sensitive to the issue.

Quite frankly my thread was put up to see how many posters it would attract given the occasions of criticism I was seeing in Jayden's post. The NYT editorial was merely fortuitous to the occasion.

That said, this thread has fostered in me a regard for the Canadian political situation which I hope to follow.

Well, we are talking about threads in 2012, not 2011, and the topics we don't want to see in HT and it kinda "exploded" from Jayden's thread to this. It is bound to happen since 2012 will be the year of many elections in different countries, most notably in the US.

I think most of us have been here for quite some time to accurately predict what HT will look like during an election year.

This entire thread was really unnecessary. I have no desire for Americans to give a shit about other countries. Heavens know we tried that ages ago and it was spectacular failure. Rather all I was asking for to cut down on the barrage of threads that will follow and if possible, keep it to Ce&P where it belongs. I am sure you don't want poop threads and "i want to fuck straight men" threads in Ce&P.

But I'm glad it managed to get you interested in the Canadian political situation.

no we had those earlier this year.

The necessity of the thread is, of course, your judgment to make.

Unfortunately, your aggressive shunning of other countries in this day and time is probably not an enlightened stance militarily, politically, or economically. For example, Canada or the U.S. may well need the others assistance in the claim for the Arctic Passage, a decision that will have huge consequence

Shunning non-Americans insults those JUB members who live under other flags and who can bring value to us (nationally as well as to JUBBERs) and our way of doing things.

Shunning them also plants the American flag at the top of JUB's pages, when JUB is global.

While I salute the Stars and Stripes, I respect those who say "Long Live the Queen."

Canada has a queen, and their politics are a mess.

The U.S. has no queen, and their politics are a mess.

Having a queen doesn't seem to help.

Uh sorry?

How are our politics a mess again?

You'll have to forgive me. I guess I just haven't noticed the problem while living here in the frozen north.

Just what I've picked up here -- corrupt cretins in control, parties getting a third of the vote but half the seats, that sort of thing.

Don't bother Kuli RB will bitch non stop about his wonderful dear leaders but if an outsider does so then it is heresay. That principle doesnt stop him from passing judgement on all the rest of the plebians at his feet.... errhhm I mean other nations.

Somehow the follow along country ends up on top in his estimation. <shrug>
