I was wondering what you guys liked about this show and didn't like. For me I think I could identify with a lot of the characters very easily. Thanks for your input.

Thanks,
Mark

Which version? UK or US?

I've only really seen the UK version, and some of it felt rather far fetched to me. I did enjoy the series though.

I should also add that because of the subject matter, the character Charlie Hunnam played as the schoolboy who 'seduces' the older gay man also took it into murky legal area concerning ephebophillia and u/a sex.

As much as I loved the UK version, I preferred the US one in the way the characters and storylines developed over a number of series/seasons.

The show should be shown in conservative countries too.
Its an educational TV series.

I'm open to all comments but mainly looking for comments on the US version.

Thanks,
Mark

I've seen both versions. While not perfect, I'm fond of both.

I identified with Michael from the US version the most.

My main problem with the US version was that Ted seemed to be their whipping boy. I think they had him experience things that the viewers wouldn't accept happening to the lead actors.

UK version was better.

but did you see me dance on the Canadian/US version
it was only for a millisecond

haha.......

I did prefer the UK soundtrack to the US - more generic, less hardcore.

I got juicy details about the producers of Queer as Folk.

damn I should shut up eh

I agree with you on that statement. I watched the US version before the UK version so that might have some factor in why I liked the US version more but for some reason I could not connect with the UK version at all.

Now as for the US version, I really liked the show. They could not have casted the characters any better and it was very well written. Even as the seasons progressed, I feel it just got better and better, leading ultimately to the final season. I was sadly one of those that was very upset once they cancelled it but in all fairness there was only so much further they could go with it before they possibly ruined the good thing they had going.

I really liked both versions. I felt the same about the dramatization of the gay scene in the US version. While i felt the UK version was closer to the way me and my friends went through the gay bar scene in Providence just prior to the series.

I loved the character development in the US version. i felt it offered the first true mainstream view of gay life and having normal parts and pieces that straight folsk who had no exposure could identify with and then see us as more human.

The sex for Brian was way over done. That guy would be ordering coffee and then flash they are in the toilet fucking...lol. I fucking wish.

Anyways... I identified with both Brian and Michael at the same time.

Edit: On the U/A sex and the schoolboy. i liked it and didn't like it. i liked it because there is a subset of our community that are younger liking older and a much more populous group of older who desire younger. I also liked it because it is truthful and happens everyday. I didnt like it because there never were any consequences. No mother in her right mind would allow her teenage son to stay with a 25 yo knowing they were gonna fuck like animals.

I liked the whole U. S. series, except for the final episode, where I thought the writers did some rather lame stuff. The flashback club scene was, well, just WEIRD...and they certainly could've given Ted at least a good break here and there, and I would've liked it to end with Justin realizing that things like cuddling and what was offered to him in West Virginia are things that are worth appreciating. (Brian's character was "developed" well enough that I thought, in this case, his offer was actually entirely sincere.)

I think I identified most with the characters Emmet and Debbie, and I definitely think that I liked Ray's values though his presence wasn't developed nearly as much.

I usually don't follow soap operas with continuing and intertwining stories, but this series drew me in entirely and it was a never-miss, must-see throughout.

But probably BECAUSE of my "involvement" with the stories and the characters in the U. S. version, I very actively avoided the British version at all costs, lest I get drawn in again (rather than be blissfully ignorant, as I am now, on what I missed by not being drawn in). Following character development is often a very tough thing for me to do (as, for example, I got entirely "lost" when trying to watch Casablanca with less than absolute undivided attention),

I've only seen the US version and love, love, loved it! I wish Showtime would bring it back.
My only real complaint is that it's supposed to be set in Pittsburgh but the entire production took place in Canada.

I found it to be quite shallow, unrealistic, and contrived. In other words, typical gay programming.

Liked: so far it's been almost the only gay-themed TV show or movie that even comes close to being honest about sex.

Disliked: a lot of bad writing on that show. I admit I haven't seen the whole series...

I enjoyed the series from season one to the end.

I always find it funny that there was a need for a QAF US. Are American's that self-centered that marketing the UK version to us was impossible? It's already in English, I assume.

The Brits remake our shows, too. BBC America is currently running Law and Order: UK.

I was in so much denial back then. I lived vicariously through the characters of the show.

Randy Harrison, played Justin, was very cute. He had a great ass too. I crushed on Hal Sparks, played Michael.
