Mine is not me either. I've never considered putting my own picture up. Mine is a spinning blue police box from the UK cira the 1960s which incidentally looks just like a TARDIS. :)

Your avatar should be whatever you'd like to put in it. Put something in it that expresses your personality, attitude, likes, ect... or just some random thing if that's what you feel.

Or you if that's what you want.

But up until I read this and paid attention, I thought your avatar was a picture of flames, rising out of a cauldron that was cropped just out of view.

Mine is not me, but I get a lot of compliments on it in comments and PMs. Someday I may change it to me, but I'm lazy. I just got a sig like a week ago, and the only time I changed my avatar was when a mod made me.
 
Mine is me and the bf... I like the picture... although I do think it is time for an update or perhaps something new.

My avatar isn't me and it never has been.

I had a pic of a very sexy random guy in there for a while, but a lot of people thought it was me. I guess it helped my 'popularity', but I didn't like all the attention. I just wanted something I enjoyed looking at, which is why I currently have a pic of my boyfriend.
