Racial slur as man calls Welsh woman "English"

The former lorry driver, who is originally from Northern Ireland, but lives in Powys, Mid Wales, called Lorna Steele an "English bitch" during an argument after he collided with her parked vehicle in the Welsh market town of Newport in February.

To be honest, I think the fact is that he insulted her, despite the fact that he collided with her car. It was parked. You can't blame her, the blame is entirely his, and he should be goddamn grovelling for forgiveness.

Not calling her a bitch. Not even calling her an 'English' bitch.

However, he was clearly using the word English as an insult, I think that's where the problem comes from. If he was in England himself, and did it, then called her it and it turned out she wasn't English... well that's just coincidence. He did it in Wales, hence he could have been pretty confident she was Welsh, yet he called her English. When it's in a situation where it's an adjective followed by an insult, in a location which implies that the adjective was untrue, then I guess it proves that the word was used with the intent to be an insult.

I frankly don't like the sound of this bloke, and while it's a ridiculous sentence, if we'd been in the courtroom I think we'd have heard him screaming at everyone involved. He sounds the type to blame his mistakes on those punishing him.

I think the sentence was too severe.
Anger and name calling are frequent occurences where an auto collision is concerned.
But honestly isn't the labelling subject to a little confusion anyway?
Since England, Scotland and Wales share the island of Great Britain aren't they all British? If so, then calling each other British bitches sort of doesn't carry any weight.
Yet, I've always heard the term British Isles and doubt citizens of the Republic of Ireland refer to themselves as British.
There have been threads here on JUB negatively criticizing we Yanks calling ourselves Americans. We could hardly call ourselves United Statesians and you blokes wouldn't refer to yourselves as United Kingdomers.
We Americans cherish our unity and our diversity. Texans don't have a whole lot in common with New Yorkers and Hawaiians don't identify much with Pennsylvanians. It seems you Brits are the same way. There are advantages to your Union but your people have their individuality too.
It seems like a "non-issue". The lorry driver should have been penalized primarily for reckless driving and possibly fined for using abusive or insulting language.
