Is Urine heavier than Water?

Me, my flatmate and Douggie (who lives next door) have done an experiment and just urinated into our toilet bowl. And not flushed.

The water in the bowl has darkened and changed from a rich gold to a dark brown.

I had thought that it would have dissipated and spilled over into the siphon. No, it doesn't.

What a fun experiment! I guess Dougie did not piss enough to push it over the siphon entirely and instead just sort of mixed in with the water. I have always found (a friend I lived with refused to flush for wees) the colour would always darken over the course of a few hours.

Urine is never sterile. Your own urine might not be hazardous to you, but it certainly can pass on illnesses to others, no matter how fresh it is.
