They're not from shaving... I don't need to shave my ass.

They're just red marks that make me look unclean. Sometimes they're raised, sometimes they're not. They also feel like sweat marks or something but I don't exercise a lot.

Applying Sudocrem a lot to the area seems to reduce them a bit, but what's causing them in the first place?

I read somewhere that exercising and leaving the toxins run out in your sweat (and then having a shower to wash the sweat off) would get rid of them.

Any ideas? Oh yeah, exfoliating doesn't seem to do the trick either as most of the time they are parallel to the skin, not raised as I said.

Thanks,
DP.

If you press firmly on them with your finger, then release the finger. Is the redness gone for a second and then more or less slowly comes back?

Chances are that they are acne/folliculitis. Try switching to an antibacterial soap, drying well after showering and applying body powder.

If those measures don't help, you may need to see your family doctor or a dermatologist for medication to help clear it up.

It's not acne as I was on accutane for five months!

Just got a Private Message (Thanks BELLAGIO) referring to zinc oxide cream. That's what sudocrem is, and what I have been using — I was just wondering if there was a better and quicker way.

@Corny: Yeah, that's exactly what they are like.

Any suggestions.

Thanks,
DP.

Are they always on the same spot or do they disappear / re appear frequently?

okay sorry .. then it is not what I was thinking of (I have no clue what the medical term is, but they can be small spots or sometimes bigger almost like a bruise. they are always on the same position though and when pressed act like described above)

Unfortunately, Accutane works well on facial acne but it not as effective on acne on the body. And quite often, the effect that Accutane has on shrinking pores can aggravate folliculitis on the underarms, groin and buttocks.

Does your ass get enough ventilation???

Are you sitting on a leather (or fake leather) chair for LONG periods of time??? If so get a ventilation pad...

Use a Charcoal soap when you shower (I would recommend Origins) -- and I'll bet your problem will go away on its own...

:):):)

Anything in your diet that may be aggravating this? Sure you can use ointments to calm the rash or itching (if any) but what's causing this. Also make sure you change underwear each day. Don't wear the same ones all week. Could be acne but do you have acne on the face (more usual area)?

I'd listen to him, it could be something you're eating that creates the spots. Could be some type of allergic reaction. Also if you're not already, eat more omega-3 good for the skin...|

DualPurpose, you might try using TendSkin on your ass.

That stuff really works (on the face, at least). When I started shaving earnestly, I used it to clear away my razor bumps. I can't imagine that it wouldn't work on the ass. My facial skin is awfully sensitive, yet Tend Skin caused me no irritation.

OP, if you really want to hedge your bets, you might ask a hot guy to apply the stuff for you!

Of course the general rule of thumb is not to diagnose without seeing anything first - I would bet this is a common case of folliculitis. Do they form pimple like bumps (pustules) that are painful? I would recommend, like many others, to always change under garments, let the area breath as much as possible, use an exfoliating scrub (NOT an exfoliating scrubber -- because this can trap bacteria and actually make the condition much worse -- always use a new rag if you must use one at all!) If the condition does not improve you can see your primary care physician and either try an antibiotic (topical and/or oral) or to see a dermatologist.

Hope this helps!
