Rediscovering The Golden Girls

Rose: "No offense Dorothy but your cupcakes are dry and tasteless. Nobody ever likes your cupcakes." ______________

Sophia: "Next question to Dorothy...what kind of pain and embarrassment has this lifestyle caused your mother?" _____________
Dorothy: "My cupcakes are moist and delicious. Men LOVE my cupcakes."
Rose: "Get a clue, Dorothy. Men would rather pay for cupcakes!"

Dorothy: "I don't know, but I'll ask her tomorrow when I visit her at... THE HOME."

Okay here goes:

Blanche: "I do believe he said gorgeous. I'm gonna live forever." _____________

Rose: "No offense Dorothy but your cupcakes are dry and tasteless. Nobody ever likes your cupcakes." ______________

Sophia: "Next question to Dorothy...what kind of pain and embarrassment has this lifestyle caused your mother?" _____________

Dorothy: Not outside of an institution.

Dorothy: My cupcakes are moist and delicious. Wait a minute, you are really talking about cupcakes.

Dorothy: I put her in a home. (I think). The slum lord episode.

I think she actually says "I really don't know. I'll ask her tomorrow when I visit her at The Home".

It was the episode where Dorothy's old teacher shows up. The teacher she had a crush on.
Same episode where Rose gets a tv gig and she thinks it's about women who sleep together. Since they have before slept in the same bed Rose assumes it's a show about women who live together. In fact, it's a show about lesbians and Rose, Dorothy and Blanche don't know this until they are live on tv.
So anyway, the host goes around and have the audience ask questions and Sophia gets up to embarass them. Right after Dorothy says what's quoted above, Sophia says "No more questions".

Ha ha...yep, that would be correct dude! ..|

I only have Season 1 on DVD....I do plan to purchase all of the Seasons....

The American WE Television Network is about to broadcast 14 consecutive episodes beginning at 4:00 pm US West Coast time....

Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan), Rose Nylund (Betty White), Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), & Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) ROCK! Their one-liner presentations & chemistry amongst each other are classic TV.

As a matter-of-fact Rue McClanahan played the mother of one of my good friends in a movie!!

Oops....gotta go....the "Shows are about to start" :)

That's right, the scumbag teacher that submits Dorothy's paper. Confused it with the court scene in the slum lord episode. Way to go. ..|

The GGs are on We TV right now (2:30 pm PDST)

I also was heartbroken when they taken off lifetime (speaking of lifetime they pretty much ruining the channel). But I am fortunate enough to own all the seasons. Today I made my brother crack-up with one of the Rose moments:
Rose: Say "Cheese"!
Rose: Now smile.

The Golden Girls are really "must see TV".

They appeal to a wide variety of audiences, but, for some reason, their gay following is really huge!

I know that my day isn't complete without seeing at least one or two episodes.....:D

Back in the early 90s, I used to get home from work, flop onto the sofa, and relax for a half hour of Golden Girls before starting dinner. Truly a classic!

Rose: "A-men!"

Blanche: "Nice work, Dorothy."

Dorothy: "It wasn't me."

(Next line, please.)

I can't recall the exact line, but it was something like "we're in trouble now". The voice of God in Dorothy's voice: classic!

^ And I think that Blanche exclaimed, "Sweet Jesus!" before that.

Ever since the show went to Hallmark, I haven't watched as much of it. I have more episodes than I can count on tapes, though. I love the episode entitled, "Isn't It Romantic?"- Dorothy's lesbian friend, Jean, comes to visit and promptly falls for Rose. The episode actually aired the very day after I was born.

Blanche: "Sweet Jesus! Am I in trouble!"

You know it's coming, but you still laugh.

I wonder how many of today's so-called comedies will still be making people laugh in reruns 20 years from now?

Not many! I can't think of any current shows that are close to the comedic genius of GG.

In a more serious vein, the show was filled with laughs, but they covered some very serious topics as well: Alzheimers, immigration, rape, mugging, homosexuality.

It truly was a trailblazing programme.

I can't believe there are so many posts in this thread and not ONE rose story??!! One of the best was when Rose was talking about the woman in St. Olaf who was on trial for murdering her husband...

Rose: So anyway, she got a suspended sentence.

Sophia: They let her go?!?

Rose: NO! They hanged her!!

Dorothy then slammed her hand on the table in disgust upon hearing that :rotflmao:

And I forget what story Rose was telling but whatever made Sophia say to her, "I don't know how much time I have left, but I deserve better company in my final years." So hilarious! Anyone know that episode?

I think what I loved most about The GG was the comedic timing. The writing was superb and the characters were excellent but the comedic timing was just brilliant.

I've never seen an episode of The Golden Girls. :(

You do live on this planet right?

One of my favorite Rose moments is when they are all sitting around the table talking about walking in on their parents while they were having sex. She says she only walked in on her parents once but they were only playing leap frog.

I think my favourite Rose 'moment' was the time Blanche asked her if she had truly never seen her father naked.
