Reid commits to DADT vote. Obama ups the pressure

Two weeks. I wonder if the Pentagon didn't put it off this long on purpose. But it's not long enough to be impossible. It's still 10 days between the release and the end of the session, and that could always change too.

m'kay.

We're also in a "lame duck" session.

Now the important question, how many GOP senators can be persuaded to treat us equally?

It will be a tough fight to get even 2 or 3 which is the likely number we need.

Also it's good they are taking out the DREAM act this time. That was one point of objection from some last time.

Even better.

Yes! :luv:

And this has been my biggest personal grievance.

When we're no longer a political football, when those of us who have not only contributed toward your campaigns, but have knocked on doors on your behalf, and RAISED campaign funds to get your sorry mutherfucking ass elected to "Congress"

THIS IS WHERE YOU'VE SHINED ON OUR BEHALF,

AND BLAMED US WHEN YOU'VE FAILED!"

Come on JB87! :D

Democrats ARE NOT OUR FRIENDS! [-X

During the next couple of weeks....this is where we get to (and this has been true for decades now) where members of Congress already know that they're going to lose, this is where they VOTE for us. ..|

Sorry to burst your capital letter bubble Centex but you have to acknowledge that the House voted and passed a repeal months ago, and the only reason it is being held up in the Senate and having not been voted on months ago is conservative unity behind a filibuster.

Oh.

I'm Sorry. !oops!

And apparently you're content with our rights being bantered about as if it were some type of a ball; cue ball, tether ball, ping-pong ball, bowling ball...any ball of CHANCE that might actually land on something that makes things "politically expedient."

The Democrats had their chance.

Would personally LOVE to hear how much "Gay Money $$$" they got from us on behalf of Obama, and the DNC! ..|

......

If history proves correct...Obama will be elected to his 2nd term in November of 2011.

Obama will not have achieved that opportunity without support from within the Democratic National Committee.

Sadly, he'll have already lost the majority of those "registered" Democrats that got his ass elected as POTUS in 2008.

There are a number off the top of my head, most of whom are from the liberal Northeast or did not seek re-election.

Gregg (R-NH)
Brown (R-MA)
Collins (R-ME)
Snowe (R-ME)
Lugar (R-IN)
Voinovich (R-OH)

Yes, and nothing has changed in 20 years.

NOTHING!

Oh except for that douchebag Senator from Connecticut who's now an "Independent;" Lieberman.

:grrr:

Where are the Democrats who've been our CHAMPIONS?

Just asking. ;)

Without Lieberman (I-CT) and Carl Levin (D-MI) this wouldn't even be up for consideration in the first place. Both have pushed hard for the passage of a repeal, and I count them among our champions right along with Ted Kennedy.

Seriously?

Kinda makes me wonder if their commitment to the repeal of DADT didn't have something to do with the Jewish | Palestinian conflict.

Oh! Btw....

All this time the Obama administration has been insisting that the repeal of DADT should be legislated, not litigated. And, though it's been a frustrating exercise, including the DOJ's appeal, I think they've got it Right, and a chance to achieve it! ..| (group)

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)
Chaz ;)

Court order would be the best way. It would just cut through all of the political crap and get right to the point, and establish lasting legal precedent in support of gay people as a distinct legal class. In fact the Secretary of Defense "fears" that the court way would be too chaotic, whatever that means, so he is arguing just that in support of a Congressional repeal. President Obama, the politician that he is, doesn't favor the court way because then the issue out of his hands and out of his control (control freak).

But really a SCOTUS resolution of the Log Cabin Republicans case is years away so the fastest route seems now to be a repeal of the law, and if that happens the court case will become moot.

The first amendment, to The Constitution, gives Congress the right to raise an Army. That which pertains to the military is, in the purely legal sense, under their control. Therefore, to make DADT completely go away, for good, without possible changes in future litigation, the only way to go is legislative! #-o ..|

Tricky? Yes! Thoroughly effective? Yes! (!) (!w!) (group)

It's also why defense appropriations bills are so critical.

Whereas Newt Gingrich shut down the federal government in 1995 with intransigence, undercutting the military's funding would have unspeakable consequences.

All the more reasons to use some astute maneuvering to "force" the Republican'ts to do the Right thing! ..|

And to think they called Bill "Slick Willie"!

I do think that "Barry & Co." have a great shot at getting DADT dissolved, entirely GONE! (!w!)

Let's hope it works! (group)

(And I think, NOW, it might be a good idea to invest in any companies that make khaki jock straps! :-< )

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)

I invest in solar energy, EDLCs, robotics, and electric cars, some of the fastest growing technologies that will dominate the 21st century. I'm also banking that my underwear collection will accrue value as well

Pics, Matt! PLEASE? (!) :-<

Hey! I'm even thinking of sending You my camera!  (group)

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)

Lisa Murkowski also seems like a likely vote

http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2010/11/18/murkowski-dadt2/

Mark Kirk may also vote to end fillibuster, even though he says he supports keeping DADT (that's really key, since it's a given there aren't enough votes to strip repeal out of the bill)

I've also heard Kit Bond's name mentioned

Just contact them... all of them so they can know it is what the people want...

Kuli pushed out a link to Sen. Mark Udall that allowed service members to sign onto our voice for repeal...

So far + 66,000 vets signed the petition.

This is the time to spend some of your time making sure congress hears you. I am in the enviable place of having mutliple addresses and although I can only hail from one state i wrote all of the last addresses to let them know (Ohio, Connecticut, Tennessee, Virginia, and California)

This can happen.
