I have split the following 24 posts from the thread titled “Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.” because these posts explore a topic that is unrelated to the thread from which they were removed. The issues surrounding Sotomayor’s nomination are sufficiently numerous and intrinsically complex to warrant the split of these posts to a separate thread.

How do you think the over 50 year olds as a group would vote on gay marriage?

Re: Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.

How do you think blacks UNDER fifty would vote for gay marraige?

How do you think recent Latino citizens UNDER fifty would vote for gay marriage?

How do you think white males UNDER fifty in Alabama would vote for gay marriage?

Just asking, that's all. ..|
Good points, but I don't think he's ever going to get it.

And how about the under 30 blind and dyslexic? Or the over 75 banjo players? Or any other ridiculously small demographic?

Could you present some data (I'm not scared of data like Kuli and BearDaddy). I think these select groups' numbers would be as bad as the over 65 year old's numbers towards gay equality. But the key point is where your post cherry-picks demographics, mine is claiming an entire group that votes religiously election after election.

But, I will say this, I don't think they were a part of a group that hosed people down, or put people in internment camps and voted for a presidential candidate in McCain that had no feasible solution to the economic crisis. (Among other crimes against humanity --> including voting for a party in 2009 that used torture... a third world pastime in AMERICA! We could be here all night)

With that much blood on these people's hands (not all of course), how could I not be a little pissed that in 2009 they as a group voted against my rights after being an accomplice on some of that nonsense that in today's world most find horrendous?

Re: Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.

He already gets it. I do not sell this man short (even if he often reminds me how much I hate myself for not finishing that class in e-santeria) He's occasionally acts like an asshole, as all passionate people do.

Is he an ageist? He may well be -- he would have to address that, as he really should clarify his rather controversial (and often vituperative) assertions. And it is a topic worth exploring. Who better to initiate that discussion han LL? As I already have respect for many of LL's views, I believe there is much to be gained in having that discussion.

That said, I think LL's a mensch who hasn't realized he's one. He just, well, sometimes chooses the wrong arrow in what should be a growing quiver. I my self have never gone beyond the line, so I can't defend him there. :^o

(caveat emptor dontchaknow: I once thought Nick Cole was quite amazing.)

I'm not an ageist, misogynist or racist or any other kind of ist. I know myself pretty well.

I told the feminists during the Democratic primary that I can be called anything but if I know it's not true then it really shouldn't bother me. They've since stopped calling me a misogynist.

Re: Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.

I'm not an ageist

Then why can't you understand that it's one's ideology that makes them against gays, not their age?

It's only the case that statistically more younger people are supportive because they were raised in an era of increasing acceptance, so it was easier for them to adopt that ideology. If you know anything about psychology you know that its harder for people to totally change their worldview once they get older.

But that's not to say that older people can't learn to be accepting, because many have if you look at the statistics there. I just don't understand why you have to resort to the demonization of old people just because they are not all there yet. If all young people were there, you might have a point, but they aren't yet either.

Re: Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.

Oh yes yes yes, darling -- that's all fine and good. But this is America, darling, you've got to define yourself.

I don't know, I sat out the JUB primaries.

Funny how what-goes-around, you know, comes-around? Have you noticed how some of the JUB Clinton feminists have become Feminazis? Some have taken Clinton's defeat like a man -- by lying down and being very still. being very, very quite -- biting the pillow, if you will. Others Have Not. Maybe Rush was right all along on that one.

A good portion took Hillary's defeat well. It's just the minority (about40%) that just really well, were encapsulated in anything Hillary. You had one guy here who campaigned for Hillary and when she got beat over the head by Obama pondered whether or not he was going to vote for Obama.

Now, tell me, how many reasonable adults in his shoes would have done something like that? That's very femme---catching feelings and then not being able to make a rational choice because some guy (Obama, and a black guy at that) disappointed you.

I never understood how and why gay men love Cher and now Britney Spears so much. It was that same kind of obsessiveness we saw here during the primaries. I mean they were straight Geraldine Ferraro crazy up in here. The only thing with them is Ferraro and her masculine ass jaw would probably tell them to man up. Ferraro eventually came around once her hormonal imbalance subsided (okay, that wasn't a nice joke, but you get my point).

They had a thread closed when I posted this following video link. Maddow's the lesbian not Ferraro. You can tell Maddow was thinking "what the fuuuuuck?!?!" as Ferraro spoke especially at 4 minutes and 21 seconds into the clip.

Seriously, Hillary was publicly what John Edwards was privately. And you never saw the kind of raging mad Edward's supporters turn all suicidal when Edwards dropped out.

The irony is that my mom, an East Texan, was telling me that "we (as in my parents) didn't know Ferraro was this wacky when she was on the Democratic ticket." I heard what my mom says and then I come on here and read gay men singing her praises just because she's a woman.

Amazing.

Really fascinating take.

It's revealing when a grown man remains so attached to his Mommy's thinking and cites it in this way. And you blame older people for so many of our problems and look forward to when they're dead and everything will be fine --- it wouldn't be hard to guess the part one or more of your grandparents play in your family dynamic.

Re: Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.

At a lot higher rate than the apathetic, pass-Proposition 8-by-staying-at-home, under-30 group.

The beat goes on... keep on dodging there.

(Folks, this is funny as hell. He's been bitchin' for about a month on a point he never had. When asked how a certain group will vote - whom he knows will vote bigoted - this is how he answers? I should have just asked him this question and all that month's worth of bickering could have been spent elsewhere.)

What he really doesn't get is that Prop 8 in California passed because of young people, because they didn't care enough to vote.

Opinterph posted the figures somewhere in this forum: something like 85% of older folks voted, and not even a majority of younger folks did. It seems the younger folks' higher "tolerance" includes tolerating discrimination 'cause they can't be bothered to even vote.

Those aren't numbers LL likes, so he ignores them, and sticks to his one-note tune... and goes right back to ascribing guilt to everyone over... what, 40? 30?

What's funny is that you're still hiding your bigotry behind a matter of statistics that you didn't bring in until you were called on the bigotry.

And your point is false, as several people have pointed out. If as high a portion of your "younger people" had voted in California as of the "older people" you love to condemn as a group (your words, dude), Prop 8 would have gone down to defeat.

Alfie pinned the reality of what you're doing right on you: you're making a broad generalization in order to condemn an entire group because of the actions of a not-excessive majority.

If you'd stick with your much-vaunted numbers, instead of trotting them out when called once again on your bigotry, this wouldn't be a problem. But since I've acknowledged the numbers before, yet you keep asking the question, this is nothing but harrassment; and since you won't acknowledge the numbers others have brought up, your bigotry is confirmed.

LMAO. WHAT?!?!?

Now you're blaming the under 30's for not voting enough? After you blamed them for not voting 100% for gay equality?

Is there anything else you'd want us to carry on our backs to offset your demographic's voting patterns?

SA10_BJA0085~Man-Carrying-Load-of-Firewood-up-Steep-Stone-Street-Zunil-Guatemala-Posters.jpg

WTF? Your group was the most bigoted group when it came to voting and checking a box in the booth.

How the HELL do you think you have room to talk? (I dare you to say anything I just said is false).

I'm going to ask again: How do you think the over 50 year olds as a group would vote on gay marriage?

Re: Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.

Aww too bad.
Notice though, that I was not saying that as an excuse for them to hold onto their bigotry. They can still change, and some of them have, as I said. It's just a statement of fact that more older people will not change because of that.

There Kuli.

Folks, Kuli blamed the younger folks for not voting high enough proportion for gay marriage to pass.

And then, I guess out of shame, he blamed the younger voters for not coming out in greater numbers to offset his age group's voting patterns.

You can't make this stuff up.

Now, he's claiming I harassed him. Who decided to drop this little disagreement between us about a week or two ago?

Who rekindled the disagreement?

Who wrote who first in this thread?

You're wounded.

This is sickening.

The "older people" that you claim should change their thinking is the generation that pushed through civil rights and gay rights and women's rights.

Stunning achievements that required sacrifice and courage and very smart strategy.

What change has your generation pushed through? What change has Obama pushed through? Please list the accomplishments; I would love to applaud them.

Um, you've got the wrong person. I'm not the one demonizing old people.

I've consistently pointed out how old people are not the only ones against gays.

Re: Obama Nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor For S.C.O.T.U.S.

And by the way, we did it while our friends and family and lovers were dying in the rice paddies of Viet Nam or hospital beds with AIDS, not twittering or spiking our hair with a pot of thirty dollar hair mud.

Ugh.
