In 2012, 699,202 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC from 49 reporting areas. The abortion rate for 2012 was 13.2 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years, and the abortion ratio was 210 abortions per 1,000 live births.

Compared with 2011, the total number and ratio of reported abortions for 2012 decreased 4%, and the abortion rate decreased 5%. Additionally, from 2003 to 2012, the number, rate, and ratio of reported abortions decreased 17%, 18%, and 14%, respectively. Given the large decreases in the total number, rate, and ratio of reported abortions from 2011 to 2012, in combination with decreases that occurred during 2008–2011, all three measures reached historic lows.

Women in their twenties accounted for the majority of abortions in 2012 and throughout the period of analysis. The majority of abortions in 2012 took place early in gestation: 91.4% of abortions were performed at ≤13 weeks’ gestation; a smaller number of abortions (7.2%) were performed at 14–20 weeks’ gestation, and even fewer (1.3%) were performed at ≥21 weeks’ gestation. Among the 45 reporting areas that provided data every year during 1998--2007, a total of 810,582 abortions (97.9% of the total) were reported for 2007; the abortion rate was 16.0 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15--44 years, and the abortion ratio was 231 abortions per 1,000 live births. Compared with 2006, the total number and rate of reported abortions decreased 2%, and the abortion ratio decreased 3%. Reported abortion numbers, rates, and ratios were 6%, 7%, and 14% lower, respectively, in 2007 than in 1998.

The abortion rate has actually fallen since 1998 for a number of reasons....and is definitely much lower than under BushCo.

And as usual, none of us can understand the hypocrisy because he keeps pointing out that black women have more abortions than any other race and he indicates that they and other minorities are likely to vote for Democrats and handouts.

I think though, that Benvolio and his Klan over at Stormfront are fixated on some image of Obama personally dragging white Republican women into abortion clinics and forcing them to have late term abortions so that he can sell the body parts.

Very true. Awkward attempts to pull every topic back to abortions, immigrants, black people and theft make for a very binary world view there. You're quite possibly on the money. The nonsensical justifications, inexplicable selfishness and inability to understand other's motivations support that.

There's the problem with things like gun reform. There are certain people who, following even a basic profiling, would raise red flags as individuals who are probably not safe around weapons. At current nothing is done to protect society from these individuals owning guns.

Whether the rate is falling is not the point. It is still an enormous number. And yes, Obama is in favor of abortion, Bush was against it. The hypocrisy is in Obama pretending to cry over the deaths of children when favors large number of them.

But the reality is that the abortion rate has been steadily declining as long as cheap birth control is readily available and sex education is taught in the schools.

We have phones that unlock themselves with a fingerprint. Pressure sensors lock the gun when you lift your finger. It's cheap and easy to produce. There are even smart watches and rings that can track your gun, making it useless to anyone but the owner.

The president is definitely obsessed with lying to get his way on this, and isn't interested in actually accomplishing anything. If he was, he'd be on Congress case with the explicit language of the Constitution, demanding action to organize and discipline the militia. Secure storage is something authorized there, since people who don't secure their arms are definitely not "well-regulated". And the GOP would have one hell of a time arguing against the explicit language of the Constitution!

After all, while a well-regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free state, as the Second Amendment says, a not-well-regulated, which in this case means sloppy, disorganized, and undisciplined, is arguably detrimental to the security of a free state. Hence, Congress has an obligation to apply the Article I Section 8 power vigorously as a matter of what the Amendment calls "security". And GOP-ers would look foolish objecting to what the Constitution plainly authorizes, especially when that authority is what can provide for a well-regulated militia.

Wayne La Pierre loves taking refuge in the Constitution. It's time responsible legislators dusted off that document and use it to light a fire under him.

When a baby is aborted the law provides for prosecution. There are so few actual cases of that no one bothers.

I know that the neocon agenda began with a prescription to lie for the people's own good, but that particular evil agenda is as dangerous as when Plato first proposed it. Even if our leaders qualified as philosophers, Plato makes clear that no philosopher can lie and continue to see the truth, so the proposition carries the seeds of its own corruption. Calling the result of most abortions "babies" is an effective lie, but it is still a lie.

Conservatives are supposed to treasure truth. Thus, we see that you are no conservative.
