What about 2011 and the preponderance of 24-7 cable news and the social network. Perhaps Lee's arrogance made him think that he was immune to what happens on the net.
You cited former presidents who had extra-marital affairs - they were elected over 50 years ago. (You left out Eisenhower who was known for banging his jeep driver.) None of them preached "traditional American family values". They may have been hypocrites, but in other areas.
